AP director general of police (DGP) Harish Kumar Gupta stressed the importance of cleanliness and greenery to ensure a healthy society. He made the remarks while participating in the Swarnandhra-Swachhandhra campaign at the AP State Police Headquarters in Mangalagiri under the theme – Cleanliness and Greenery
. After planting saplings as part of the event, the DGP pointed out that Chief Minister Nara Chandrababu Naidu envisions India becoming a global leader by 2047, with Andhra Pradesh emerging as the number one state in the world, while prioritising environmental conservation and greenery. Highlighting that India still lags behind many countries in green cover, Harish Kumar Gupta stressed the need for a robust action plan to increase green cover.
In this regard, he said Amaravati, the state capital, is being developed with 30 per cent green cover. For the purpose, he called on people staying in the region to plant trees as a social responsibility, actively protect the environment and control pollution. As part of the campaign, around 520 police headquarters staff, including high officials, took up a massive cleanliness drive, removing waste and improving the surroundings.
