Vijayawada : A.P. State Legal Services Authority conducted training programme to the newly selected Legal Aid Defence Counsel on 28th &. 29th January, 2023 as per the directions of the Hon'ble the Chief Justice, Hon'ble Sri Justice C.Praveen Kumar, Executive Chairman, APSLSA. The Legal Aid Defence Counsel System is introduced for the benefit of Under Trial Prisoners and Convict Prisoners in regard to bail applications, conducting trail, conducting
appeals etc. The services of Legal Aid Defence Counsel is free of cost. The Legal Aid Defence Counsel are functioning in the District Headquarters andrendering services under the respective District Legal ServicesAuthorityHon'ble Sri Justice Dr.V.R.K.Krupa Sagar, Judge, High Court of A.P. has inaugurated the training programme to the Legal Aid Defence Counsel.

HisLordship addressed the duties and responsibilities and how the Legal Aid Defence Counsel shall render assistance and advice to the prisoners. HisLordship also informed the Legal Aid Defence Counsel to render legal assistance and advice to the prisoners with all concern and provide effective and meaningful legal services to the prisoners. The family members or the relatives of the prisoners may approach the District Legal Services Authorities concerned, seeking necessary assistance/ advice to the prisoners in any criminal matter. The services are completely free of cost.
