No one who does good work will ever come to a bad end, either here or in the world to come” – Lord Krishna, Bhagavad Gita.

Men are known by their deeds; what they say is not always matched by their actions. Few can achieve what many aspire. The path of the 'karma yogi,' as said by Lord Krishna in the Bhagavad Gita, is to labour tirelessly without coveting the results of one's labour. I have met many great persons in my long career as a scribe spanning over three decades, and I can certainly claim that among the greats, there are few who can be counted on fingers who are on par with Mr. A Chandrasekhara Reddy. A personification of tireless work fueled by passion and drive. He is a source of motivation, particularly for those who want to devote their lives to public service. A lesson to be studied on how to face any challenge.

A technocrat with extensive knowledge of energy conservation. When it comes to combating global warming and climate change, energy conservation has emerged as the major solution. Nations all across the world have promised to address climate change by shifting away from conventional energy and towards renewable energy. The key is implementation; without it, aspirations will fail. To achieve such transformation, the world searched for leaders, men and women who were ambitious and motivated. Chandrasekhara Reddy is one such leader who has drawn not only India's attention to Andhra Pradesh, but also the attention of the rest of the world. What he has accomplished at APSECM is nothing short of a miracle; year after year, he has pushed the boundaries and garnered numerous prizes and plaudits for his efforts.

Mr. A Chandrasekhara Reddy, the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of the AP State Energy Conservation Mission (SECM), has worked tirelessly for over a decade to improve energy efficiency and has achieved the following key achievements:

He identified more than 30 energy efficiency investment projects worth Rs. 412 crore in the state by holding various national workshops twice in Visakhapatnam and Vijayawada in collaboration with the Industries department.

He suggested/proposed in multiple meetings to provide a 5% interest subsidy for micro, small, and medium companies (MSMEs), which is being meticulously considered by the Ministry of Power, Government of India, and the Department of Expenditure, Finance Department, Government of India.

He received a good score in the State Energy Efficiency Index-2022 and was ranked first in the country for best energy savings performance. The Hon'ble President of India presented him with the Prestigious National Energy Conservation Award-2022.

In 2015, the World Bank ranked Andhra Pradesh first in terms of energy efficiency ready potential.

He received National Energy Conservation Awards in 2015, 2016, and 2018. He also received the Central Board for Irrigation and Power (CBIP) Award for Excellence in Energy Efficiency Promotion in 2016.

He unified all departments for the proper implementation of EC & EE programmes, establishing a regular review system with all Secretaries of major departments, led by the Chief Secretary to the Government.

With the assistance of IIT Hyderabad, he played a crucial role in bringing Innovative IoT (Internet of Things) based technology in 65 Micro Small and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs) for increased productivity and reduced energy losses.

He increased the grants for APSECM from Rs.3 crores to Rs.15 crores and expected to receive 50 crores in the near future.

He has a good rapport with notable persons such as Ajay Mathur, Director General of the International Solar Alliance (ISA), Abhay Bakre, Director General of BEE, and Johnathan Demenge, Counsellor, Swiss Development Cooperation, among others.

He participated in global webinars and made suggestions that aided in the enhancement of AP's brand image for the implementation of energy efficiency programmes, particularly the large AP energy efficient housing programme.

He took a unique initiative to create awareness about energy conservation among 1 crore Self Help Group Women, which aids in the deeper penetration and wider transmission of the energy conservation message to all households in the state.

With the help of the Indo Swiss BEEP (construction energy efficiency project), he played a vital role in establishing energy conservation construction codes in residential buildings, including cool roof technology.

He organised ECO-NIWAS Samhitha awareness and capacity building programmes for engineers/employees of the GVWV and VSWS Departments in thirteen former common districts of the state in order to implement energy efficiency measures in 28.3 lakh Jagananna colonies under Navaratnalu PedalandarikiIllu.

He established APSECM as a stand-alone SDA and received national praise for establishing a separate and devoted organisation for energy efficiency.

According to the official statement of BEE, GoI, which was declared by BEE in scope building in December-2022 in New Delhi, the majority of the States (18) followed the AP model of State Level Steering Committee (SLSC) for successful execution of energy efficiency activities.

He was instrumental in organising last year's Ujjwal BharatUjjwal Bhavishya programme in Visakhapatnam, which was addressed by the Hon'ble Prime Minister of India.

In the last ten years, the State has won six national level honours under his capable guidance, leadership, and continual monitoring as CEO APSECM.

Awards recognise excellence, but a good heart is often underappreciated. Mr. Chandrasekhar Reddy is more than a public servant; he is a humanitarian. He assisted many people in times of need, lending his ears to their pleas and extending his hands to assist. I'd rather not go into the intricate details of his humanitarian efforts because God's reward for him far outweighs any human recognition. As he prepares to retire, his colleagues and subordinates hope that he will continue to provide much-needed services to the country and, in particular, the state. I pray from the bottom of my heart that God blesses him abundantly with long life and that present and future generations enjoy the fruits of his tireless labour.
