Amaravati, – Andhra Pradesh has received national recognition in healthcare digitalization with a rare opportunity for its Ayushman Bharat Digital Mission (ABDM) director. G. Veerapandian, Commissioner of Health and Family Welfare and ABDM Mission Director, has been chosen by the central government to undergo a month-long training program in Denmark. Only four officials from across the country were selected for this specialized course. Along with Veerapandian, officers from Assam, Jammu and Kashmir and Madhya Pradesh will also participate.
The training will be conducted at the Danida Fellowship Centre in Denmark from October 1 to 31 with all expenses covered by the Danish government. The program focuses on strengthening digitalization in public health, a sector that has been a priority for India since the launch of the Ayushman Bharat Digital Mission in 2021. In Andhra Pradesh, the mission is being implemented under the guidance of Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu and the supervision of Health Minister Satyakumar Yadav.
The state has already achieved notable progress. Government hospitals have received incentives worth Rs. 20 crore and an additional Rs. 16 crore has been sanctioned under the digitalization program. No other state has secured this level of central funding.
So far, 4.66 crore people in Andhra Pradesh have been registered with ABHA numbers covering 92.04 percent of the population, the highest in the country. The state has recorded 6.92 crore electronic health records placing it second nationwide. It has registered 63,340 doctors and health professionals under the Health Professional Registry securing third place. With 21,936 government and private hospitals registered in the Health Facility Registry, the state stands fifth. Andhra Pradesh also secured third place in the use of the Scan and Share system which has helped 2.07 crore patients avoid long queues.
To achieve this progress, the government has implemented the Doctor Care HMIS system in health and wellness centers along with NIC’s Next Gen eHospital platform across hospitals. Recognizing these achievements, the Centre included Andhra Pradesh among the four states selected for Denmark training.
Health Minister Satyakumar congratulated Veerapandian on his selection and said the recognition reflects Andhra Pradesh’s leadership in healthcare digitalization.
