AMARAVATI: Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu moved a resolution in the state assembly to make Amaravati as the new capital of the state.
The state has been divided for various political reasons. After the reorganization, AP was left without a capital.
Though there is a possibility of keeping Hyderabad as the common capital for 10 years, the Chief Minister has started the construction of the new capital with the aim of keeping the governance close to the people.
The Sivaramakrishnan Committee was set up by the central government to decide on the location of the capital.
A total of 5,380 people from different parts of the state were interviewed and 1156 of them suggested that the capital should be built between Vijayawada and Guntur.
