APSECM plans to adopt Exclusive Media Plan to promote EE awareness

As part of promoting Energy Conservation (EC) and Energy Efficiency (EE) awareness in the State of Andhra Pradesh, the AP State Energy Conservation Mission (APSECM) with the support of Union Ministry of Power led Bureau of

Energy Efficiency (BEE) is planning to take pro-active steps and adopt an Exclusive Media Plan and Communication Strategies on Energy Efficiency and Energy Conservation programs in the State.

During the meeting participated by BEE Regional Media Advisor of Southern States Sri A Chandrasekhara Reddy on Communication Strategies on Energy Efficiency and Energy Conservation at APSECM office, Vidyut Soudha Vijayawada on Thursday, the Chief Executive Officer of APSECM, Sri BAVP kumara Reddy briefed on the implementation of energy efficiency demonstration projects, Perform Achieve & Trade (PAT) Scheme, Energy Conservation Building Code(ECBC),  awareness programs and other energy conservation initiatives.

CEO APSECM explained about energy efficiency demonstration projects implemented in Sri Venkateswara University in Tirupati, Andhra Bhawan in New Delhi , Tirumala Tirupati Devasthanam, , Old and New Govt. General Hospitals, Dental Hospital in Vijayawada and 130 Govt. Schools.

Explaining about ECBC & PAT, CEO said that ECBC has been notified in 123 Urban Local Bodies (ULBs) in AP and APSECM has come up with “AP Cool Surface Policy 2023-28” aiming at creating simple solutions to bring down the urban heat impact in Buildings. Further, APSECM has taken up Construction of Super ECBC building at Visakhapatnam. Under PAT scheme, 59 highly energy-intensive industries achieved energy savings of around 1.16 million tons of oil equivalent until PAT cycle-V,” CEO said.

Briefing on the EE/EC awareness programs, CEO said that APSECM established 1000 energy clubs in various educational Institutes to carry out EE/EC awareness activities among the students. “APSECM implemented Lifestyle for Environment (LiFE) mission activities to create awareness on energy savings to general public, students and retailers by conducting LiFE programs in 35 Energy Clubs, 20 Go Electric Campaigns, 10 Retailer Training Programs, and 45 programs for Residential Welfare Associations and Households”, CEO APSECM said.

“As part of Media Campaign, APSECM broadcasted 3 FM radio jingles in 4 FM channels along with 4 short videos in 1158 theatre screens and displayed short videos in 4 Bus Depots and Organized National Energy Conservation Week 2023, State Energy Conservation Award competition and short video competition. APSECM distributed brochures, tips and pamphlets on energy conservation to students and general public periodically along with effective use of Social Media Handles like Face book, Twitter for creating awareness by way of postings on EE/EC measures” CEO said.

Responding to CEO APSECM, the Regional Media Advisor of BEE, Sri A Chandrasekhara Reddy appreciated APSECM for its pro-active role in implementation and promotion of EE Programs in the State. He emphasized the need for adopting Media Action Plan for EE & EC that focuses on essential strategies and actions that aim to educate, motivate, and engage stakeholders including the public, businesses, and policymakers. He suggested APSECM to focus on promoting Mission Life to change the perception of environmental protection as an individual responsibility that aligns with India’s Climate Goals and the targets set by Govt. of India.

Stating that increased public awareness, encouraging behavioral change, communication, Engaging Corporate and Industrial sectors, leveraging Technological tools are the key objectives of Proposed Media Plan, the Regional Media Advisor suggested APSECM on adoption of communication strategies exclusively for Mission LiFE and energy efficiency activities. He suggested for exclusive budget for the annual media action plan and communication strategies and creation of subject wise leaflets, hoardings for subjects like Standards & Labelling, ECBC and Industries. 

CEO APSECM thanked Regional Media Advisor BEE for his support to APSECM in promoting communication strategies and proposing energy efficiency media plan for AP. He also thanked BEE for its continuous support to APSECM in implementation of energy efficiency programs in the State.

Senior officials of APSECM have participated in the meeting.
