Government of India’s Bureau of Energy Efficiency (BEE) has come forward to turn world renowned Tirumala temple into an eco friendly and energy efficient pilgrim centre. BEE, has given consent to AP State Energy Conservation Mission(APSECM), Energy dept, Govt. of AP for providing technical and financial support for conducting large scale Investment Grade Energy Audit(IGEA) in Tirumala Tirupati Devasthanam (TTD) and its allied temples and choultries.
Its worth mentioning here that BEE had heralded energy audit of MSME in the area of refractory cluster in Andhra Pradesh, conducted as part of preparation of energy efficiency road map at the national level.
TTD has contemplated to adopt energy efficiency practices to enhance efficiency in energy use that would not only help to achieve huge energy savings but also considerably decrease electricity bills besides reducing green house gas emissions. Out of total energy consumption of 68 MU per annum in TTD, around 30% of the consumption is being met from solar and wind power generation. The remaining 70 per cent of electricity needs of 435 Lakh units for TTD and its allied temples around Tirumala Hills are being supplied by APSPDCL, said officials.
A national level expert energy audit agency(Delhi based) empanelled with BEE, will now take up investment grade energy audit of water pump sets from 5th of July-2021 onwards to find out the performance and efficiency of the existing water pumps and to list out the inefficient pump sets which require replacement.
As water management being a priority for TTD, efficient water pumping management plays a key role. In the existing 399 pumpsets with total load of 3500 HP, it is preliminarily assessed to save 20% of energy i.e around 1.14 MU.
In a preliminary energy audit conducted by APSECM in the temples of Tirumala Tirupati Devasthanam (TTD), it is observed that energy savings through replacement of existing 38000 fans with super efficient fans with an investment of Rs. 9.5 Crs will achieve 5.02 MU energy savings per annum with monetary savings of Rs. 4.5 Cr per annum. Similarly, replacement of no star/single star ACs with 5 star ACs and installation of AC savers for existing 3 star/5 star ACs for all the existing 1608 No’s Air conditioners with investment of Rs. 8.4 Crs estimated to achieve energy savings of 3.09 MU and monetary savings of Rs. 1.85 Crs per annum, said officials.
During a webinar conducted between energy dept and TTD, the Executive Officer/TTD and Chairman of Tirumala Tirupati Devasthanam Specified Authority, K S Jawahar Reddy said that TTD has taken every measure to ensure best services to devotees such as Srivari darshan, Special darshan for physically disabled, annaprasadam, free transport by bus from Tirupati to tirumala etc. Out of all these measures, eco friendly energy efficient and water management practices are prime areas for which we would like to showcase TTD one among the top temples across the Globe. The EO thanked BEE and State Energy dept for coming forward to conduct energy audit in TTD. TTD further invites Eco friendly initiatives/suggestions from interested parties, he said.
The TTD has wind mill power plant with a capacity of 7.5 MW having capacity to generate 1 Crore units with savings of Rs.5 Crore per year and 10 MW solar power plant(floor mounted) having capacity to generate 1.45 Cr units per annum with savings of Rs.3 Crs per annum. TTD is planning to go for 2 MW Roof top solar system in all colleges/schools in Tirupati and TTD buildings in Tirumala with the support of State level agencies like New & Renewable Energy Development Corporation of Andhra Pradesh (NREDCAP) and also National level agencies. Next we are planning to focus on eco-friendly energy efficient electrical appliances, Energy Management System (i.e to monitor the functioning of electrical loads) and pro-environment practices for reducing economic burden on TTD.
Secretary Energy, Srikant Nagulapalli thanked Director General/BEE, Abhay bhakre and his team for their strong and continuous support and said that state govt. focus is on highly qualitative power supply, qualitative services and affordable power. At the same time energy efficiency is also equally important for a sustainable future. AP is considered as one of the best state in promotion of renewable energy, innovative energy efficient technologies and best practices. Each and every institutions and individual should take responsibility to support government in field of energy efficiency and promotion of renewable energy sources which will have major impact on economy and state.
The Secretary who has highlighted 24×7 power supply and latest energy efficiency initiatives of BEE in TTD during the webinar further said that the Energy dept is keen to study and adopt innovative measures and best practices across the state in the areas of agriculture, industry, municipal, buildings etc. The sole objective of the department is to scale up energy efficiency and promotion of renewable energy which will ultimately benefit for providing cost effective power which is one of the sole objective of the chief minister Y S JaganMohan Reddy.
TTD Executive Officer said that TTD is 100 per cent pro-environment conscious temple. TTD strongly believes in environment, live with environment in true spirit. That’s why we are laying full focus on star labelled appliances and promotion of renewables. We hope that TTD’s initiative to embrace energy efficiency will encourage others to look at eco-friendly solutions that will help our society and nature as well. We would like to make TTD a role model in energy efficiency and water management not only in the country but also in the world, he said. Senior officials of TTD and APSECM Officials have participated in the webinar D Nageswara Rao, CE/Incharge/TTD, R Ravishankar Reddy, Executive Engineer(Energy conservation cell)/TTD have participated in the webinar.
