HYDERABAD: Telugu Desam chief N. Chandrababu Naidu on Thursday called upon all former leaders to re-join the party.

“Wherever you're working, now come join your home party”, he said, adding that they would restore the party’s former glory in Telangana, where it was born.Naidu was addressing party activists at NTR Trust Bhavan here on Thursday during the swearing in ceremony of Kasani Gyaneshwar Mudiraj as the TDP Telangana state president.

Hundreds of party activists, including from districts took part in the programme after Mudiraj took charge. Earlier, a rally was taken out from Naidu’s residence up to the party office.

Naidu said that Telugu Desam always encouraged leadership from among the Backward Classes, which is now being followed by all other major political parties.

TDP founder N.T. Rama Rao tirelessly worked for the self-respect of Telugus across the globe, he said. Following the economic reforms introduced by the then prime minister P.V. Narasimha Rao, the Telugu Desam government promoted the Information Technology (IT) sector in Hyderabad.

“I am proud to have set up Cyberabad, which will boost the economy of thousands of families”, he said. Naidu said that his initiatives like IT, ORR, RGIA and flyovers among others were carried forward by successive chief ministers like Y.S. Rajasekhar Reddy, K. Rosaiah, N. Kiran Kumar Reddy and K. Chandrasekhar Rao. After bifurcation of Andhra Pradesh, I concentrated on residuary AP for its development,” he said.

Chandrababu Naidu said that leaders should come forward to strengthen the party in Telangana state for their bright future. TDP always works for the benefit of Telugu people, he said. During the TD regime, Telangana got utmost importance in irrigation projects, IT, education and other sectors. “We strongly believed in the knowledge economy and brought in prestigious educational institutions”, he said.
