Energy Secretary Srikant Nagulapalli reviews the preparedness of power utilities

Vijayawada, 26-09-21: In view of GULAB cyclone that may affect north coastal districts Visakhapatnam, Vizianagaram and Srikakulam, Secretary Energy, Srikant Nagulapalli is continuously monitoring the preparedness for facing the cyclone and has given instructions to the APEPDCL to be fully ready and make arrangements in their respective districts.

Energy Secretary has conducted a review with CMD APEPDCL K Santhosha Rao and also asked the officials of APEDPCL, Visakhaptnam to be on high alert to any kind of eventuality and to take up restoration works if there will be any damage to power infrastructure due to the Cyclone. He directed CMD EPDCL that fool proof arrangements have to be in place to restore power supply to the areas which may get affected within a short period.

Energy Secretary has directed APEPDCL to make ready the necessary material and transport to the cyclone prone districts. He also told to procure small generators to be used for emergency situations for stand by purposes and make available the required number of de-watering pumps also for emergency purpose. He also asked to ensure proper switching of feeders if necessary if any heavy gale and downpour to avoid electrocution related accidents.

CMD/APEPDCL has appraised the Secretary that all the required Men and material were kept ready to restore the power supply to normalcy in case of any damage. All the Engineers and Staff working in visakahpatnam, Srikakulam and Vizianagram were told to be on high alert in view of cyclone, he said.

In view of the Gulab cyclonic warning from 25th to 27Th September   the control Rooms are established at cyclone affected Districts of Srikakulam, Vizianagaram & Visakhapatnam. The Directors were nominated as overall Nodal officers for each District. The senior officers from Corporate office were assigned with the duties duly coordinating with the executing Officers and Staff in the field, he said.

Twenty seven Mandals from Visakhapatnam, Vizianagaram, Srikakulam and 20438 Nos of  33 kv Poles,  155577 Nos of  11 KV Poles and 27254 Nos. Of DTRs are likely to be affected. 3540 Nos of manpower and required Generators, JCBs , Cranes, Power Saws, pole drilling machines are kept available, he said.

EPDCL CMD also said that Each Batch will be headed by one Line Inspector and contains 20Nos workers and one Supervisor along with vehicles. In every Division, batches should be arranged with Power saws and Gas cutters for Tree clearing works and for Iron material fabrication.. 30Nos. wireless sets are available with  full Charging condition. If necessary another 20 Nos will be diverted from Eluru and Rajhamahendravaram.

The SEs must see for the accommodations to the officers, staff and engaged labours locally. Computerized maps of the EHT and 33/11 KV sub stations with feeders and details poles on each 33 KV &11KV feeders, are available, he said.

During the cyclone period, top to bottom (Linemen to Chairman) should keenly watch the events and restore the power.  The staff should be present for 24x7 and should not avail any holidays during this cyclone period. The Chief Minister is very keen on Public safety, security and power supply on war footing basis during gulab cyclone, said Secretary Energy.

JMD/HRD, Security and Vigilance, K Venkateswara Rao, CMDs of DISCOMs, H Haranatha Rao and J Padma Janardhana Reddy and other higher officials of DISCOMs, TRANSCO and the SEs of DISCOMs have also participated in the review.
