  • The AP State Energy Conservation Mission was congratulated by ISA DG for receiving the prestigious National Energy Conservation Award.
  • India's energy efficiency is a success story for the world - ISA DG.
  • AP is one of the best states in adopting energy efficiency in the country
  • The 'Ujala' LED bulb scheme saved the country's middle-class and poor households Rs 20,000 crore in power bills.
  • India's Panchamrit climate change goals are a huge boon for the entire country in terms of providing a clean and sustainable environment for future generations.

At the release event of the book "Energy Efficiency Matters," organised at the India International Centre in New Delhi, Dr. Ajay Mathur, Director General(DG), International Solar Alliance(ISA), who is one of the book's authors, presented a copy of the book to A. Chandrasekhara Reddy, Chief Executive Officer of APSECM.

Dr. Ajay Mathur lauded the spectacular efforts of the Andhra Pradesh State Energy Conservation Mission (APSECM), the State Designated Agency (SDA) of Andhra Pradesh, the Energy Department, and GoAP in helping achieve India's climate goals. According to Dr. Ajay Mathur, energy efficiency in India is a global success story, citing programmes such as Unnat Jyoti Affordable LEDs for All (UJALA), the National LED Street Lighting Program, the Energy Conservation Building Code, the Eco-Niwas Samhitha, Perform, Achieve, and Trade (PAT), among others. He stated that the book's primary goal is to outline the principles of energy efficiency and highlight various practises that can be implemented across appliances, both at the time of purchase and during use, to reduce a household's electricity consumption and energy burden through interior and exterior design of homes. According to him, the book addresses some common questions in order to align consumers' understanding of energy efficiency.

"Through energy efficiency, India has a tremendous potential to drive economic growth, create jobs, conserve natural resources, and reduce pollution," he added.

Dr. Mathur also stated that the revolutionary step taken by the Hon'ble Prime Minister of India, Sri Narendra Modi, in 2016 to implement the "Ujala" LED bulb scheme saved the country's middle-class and poor households Rs 20,000 crore in power bills, emphasising the need for sustainable energy to fuel sustainable growth.

He praised the union government's initiatives and policies aimed at assisting all states in implementing large-scale energy efficiency and renewable energy.

He congratulated Andhra Pradesh's APSECM, SDA on winning the prestigious National Energy Conservation Award in the SDA category in Group-2 (States that consume energy between 5 and 15 million tonnes of oil equivalent) and receiving the award from the President of India. He lauded AP's efforts in the areas of LED bulb distribution, LED street lighting in urban local bodies, and adopting an integrated approach involving all departments to promote energy efficiency through energy conservation cells.

DG ISA also stated that it is important to note that R K Singh, Union Minister of Power, who initiated stringent steps to improve energy efficiency and address climate change, has written a letter to all states encouraging them to follow the model of AP in setting up standalone SDAs, for which he expressly thanked the government of AP for having a dedicated agency (standalone SDA i.e. APSECM) for energy conservation and efficiency in the State.
