First-time MLA Rekha Gupta to sworn-in as C M of Delhi, AP CM N Chandrababu Attend Swearing-In Ceremony

New Delhi CM: Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) on Wednesday named first-time MLA  Rekha Gupta as the new Chief Minister of Delhi. Gupta's name was officially announced during the BJP’s legislature party meeting, which was attended by observers Ravi Shankar Prasad and Om Prakash Dhankhar.

She will be the fourth women chief minister of Delhi after Sushma Swaraj, Sheila Dixit and Atishi. The BJP leader will take oath as the Delhi Chief Minister at Ramlila Maidan on Thursday (February 20). The ceremony is expected to take place at around 12:35 pm and is likely to be attended by top BJP leaders, including chief ministers from party-ruled states 

Who is Rekha Gupta?

Rekha Gupta  is an MLA from Shalimar Bagh. In the Delhi Assembly Elections 2025, Rekha Gupta defeated Vandana Kumari of the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) from the Shalimar Bagh assembly seat by a margin of 29,595 votes, according to the Election Commission (EC) of India. 

Rekha Gupta, a 50-year-old seasoned BJP leader, has previously served as the National Vice President of the party’s Mahila Morcha. She won the Shalimar Bagh (North-West) seat in the 2025 Delhi Assembly Election, securing 68,200 votes. She enjoys close ties with the RSS and is actively engaged with women-related matters. 

A lawyer by profession with an LLB degree, Gupta's political journey began as the President of the Delhi University Students’ Union (DUSU) from 1996 to 1997. She later entered municipal politics, winning the Delhi Councillor elections from Uttari Pitampura (Ward 54) in 2007 and securing re-election in 2012. She has also held the position of Mayor of the South Delhi Municipal Corporation, further enhancing her administrative experience.

She launched the Sumedha Yojana to support economically weaker female students in pursuing higher education. As the head of the Women Welfare and Child Development Committee, she worked on initiatives focused on women's empowerment.  

Throughout her career, Gupta has actively contributed to various programs benefiting marginalized communities and women. Her dedication to social service has been shaped by her family's strong emphasis on public welfare. Over the years, she has taken on multiple roles in both political and community-driven activities.

Rekha Gupta has zero cases against her

Rekha Gupta has zero cases against her. Financially, Gupta possesses total assets or net worth of Rs 5.3 crore with Rs 2.7 crore movable assets and Rs 2.6 crore immovable assets. She has Rs 1.2 crore in liabilities. 

She was born in 1974 in Nandgarh village located in the Jind district of Haryana. Gupta's family shifted to Delhi in the year 1976. Her husband's name is Manish Gupta. 

It is pertinent to mention that Gupta is the 18th woman Chief Minister of any state or UT in India.

She is the fifth woman Chief Minister from the BJP after Sushma Swaraj (Delhi), Uma Bharti (Madhya Pradesh), Vasundhara Raje Scindia (Rajasthan) and Anandiben Patel (Gujarat)

Andhra Pradesh CM N Chandrababu Naidu To Attend Swearing-In Ceremony Of Delhi CM

Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu will attend the swearing-in ceremony of the new chief minister of Delhi likely to be held on Thursday.

The Telugu Desam Party (TDP) national president left for the national capital on Wednesday evening. According to the Chief Minister's Office (CMO), Chandrababu Naidu is likely to call on Union Home Minister Amit Shah, Union Minister for Water Resources C.R. Patil, and Union Minister for Agriculture Shivraj Singh Chouhan.
