Vijayawada, 28-02-23: Stating that the National awards won by various departments of the State Government in diversified fields including the prestigious Central Board of Irrigation and Power (CBIP) award is an indication of the best performance and matter of pride for State Govt. that showcases Andhra Pradesh at National level, said K S Jawahar Reddy Chief Secretary to Government of Andhra Pradesh   

During a review on the awards won by various departments including energy department, the AP Chief Secretary said that consistent efforts, stakeholder support and integrated approach with all departments are the key drivers for achieving the National Awards. He appreciated all the departments for winning prominent awards such as Enertia awards, Skoch Awards, National energy conservation award, CBIP awards etc and advised them to continue to put strong efforts in improving the performance and achieve many milestones in future.  

“The State Government is laying special focus on increasing the income levels of people and improving quality of life of general public. With these awards, we become more accountable to people. Each of us has a bigger responsibility to ensure smooth functioning of welfare schemes and to provide best quality services to all the stakeholders”, said Chief Secretary, GoAP.

As per the latest information from Central Board of Irrigation and Power (CBIP) to Water Resources dept, the Government of Andhra Pradesh has conferred the most prestigious CBIP Award for Excellence in Integrated Water Resources Management for the year 2022 and modernization of Pennar Delta System by constructing Nellore Barrage, Sangam Barrage and other modernization works that resulted in a harmonized development and management of Water, Land and related resources and contribute towards the economic and social welfare benefits to the people in this region.

The Central Board of Irrigation and Power has been presenting prominent CBIP awards since its inception from 1927 with an aim to promote excellence in the water, power and renewable energy sectors and recognize the outstanding contribution of various organizations, stakeholders & professionals.

During the meeting, Nellore District collector KVN Chakradhar Babu explained the Chief Secretary that the Modernization of Pennar Delta System under "Jalayagnam Programme" was initiated by water resources dept and modernization activity was completed in 2021-22 by the inauguration of Nellore & Sangam Barrages with overall cost of about Rs. 1200 Crores as part of Water Conservation & Management.

“With the objective of modernization of Pennar delta system, the water resources department has implemented activities such as construction of Barrage cum Bridges in place of age old Anicuts near Sangam Village & Nellore Town.  The dept. has provided nearly 400 Km of CC Lining with 900 CM & CD works across these canals in place of dilapidated structures that were constructed during British period and also made some Improvements to the existing Reservoir system and subsidiary tank systems” Chakradhar Babu explained. He profusely thanked Chief Minister Y S JaganMohan Reddy for his continuous monitoring and support for the completion of the project.

Officials also informed that Hon’ble Union Minister for Power, New & Renewable Energy R K Singh and other Hon’ble State Ministers, Secretaries of Central and State Govts., CMDs & CEOs of Govt. & Private Sectors organizations would likely grace the CBIP day and present the CBIP awards. The CBIP awards have been presented by eminent dignitaries in the past such as presidents and Prime Ministers of India, Dr Rajendra Prasad, Dr. Zakar Hussain, Dr S. Radhakrishnan, V V Giri, Pt. Jawaharlal Nehru, Lal Bahadur Shastri, Smt Indira Gandhi and Rajiv Gandhi to name a few, said officials.

The AP Chief Secretary congratulated AP Principal Secretary of water resources dept Shashi Bhushan Kumar, District Collector of Nellore KVN Chakradhar babu and team for conferring the CBIP award. The Nellore District collector along with M. Srinivasulu Reddy, Chief Engineer, NTR Telugu Ganga Project, Tirupati, K Harinarayana Reddy, Ex Chief Engineer, NTR TGP Tirupati would receive the CBIP Award on behalf of Government of Andhra Pradesh on CBIP day (03rd March, 2023) on Friday at SCOPE Convention centre, New Delhi..

Explaining about the awards won by power utilities, the Special chief secretary energy K Vijayanand said that the power utilities have made relentless efforts and within a span of 3 months the utilities won 3 National Awards. “AP State Energy Conservation Mission (APSECM), Energy dept won National Energy Conservation Award received from president of India. APTRANSCO won Enertia award as the best transmission utility in the country along with NREDCAP as one of the best renewable corporation. APTRANSCO also won CBIP award as best transmission utility while APSECM won the same for Excellence in promotion of Energy Efficiency in the past few years”, said Vijayanand

Officials said that the State Panchayat Raj department has bagged 17 awards announced by the Union Panchayat Raj Ministry in 2021. The awards are under different categories, including Deen Dayal Upadhyay Panchayat Sashaktikaran, Nanaji Deshmukh Rashtriya Gaurav Gram Sabha Purashkar, Gram Panchayat Development Plans, Child-friendly Gram Panchayat Award and e-Panchayat Puraskar.

The Chief Secretary appreciated special chief secretary energy K Vijayanand and special chief secretary Panchayat Raj dept B Rajasekhar for achieving national awards.
