SC Commission Slams Officials for Negligence in Dalit Atrocity Cases

We are working to protect Dalit rights

Police must support victims and file FIRs

Our goal is to build an equal society

-SC Commission Chairman Kottapalli Samuel Jawahar

Vijayawada, July 30:
SC Commission Chairman Kottapalli Samuel Jawahar said the commission is focused on protecting Dalit rights. Speaking at a press meet held at the SC Commission office in the NTR Administrative Block, he said the aim is to build a caste-free and equal society.

He stated that 135 atrocity cases have been reported this year, with 78 of them in the last three months. In NTR district, out of 13 atrocity complaints, only 3 were officially registered. He pointed out that even when cases are reported, officials are not filing them properly.

Some officers are showing indifference, he said. When victims approach the police, FIRs are not being filed. He called for change and stressed that officials must take responsibility and file FIRs immediately when someone in distress approaches them. A detailed report should also be submitted.

As chairman, he said he holds special powers and will not compromise on the rights of Scheduled Castes.

He also addressed land resurvey issues and said police should take up any complaints that come in this context. Regarding residential hostels, he noted that there is high demand for 300 seats, over; 3,000 students are applying. He urged authorities to act and correct this imbalance.

He also demanded action in the case involving MLC Anantha Babu in the Subrahmanyam murder and promised justice in the case of the deceased Dr. Sudhakar. He said police must provide relief to victims who come to the station with complaints of harassment and ensure FIRs are registered without delay.

He reiterated that in many cases, officials are refusing to file cases, especially in areas like Kurnool and Nandyal, where atrocity reports are higher.
