The sacred festival of Snana Purnima is being observed today, June 11, 2025, with great religious fervour in Puri, Odisha. On this auspicious occasion, the ceremonial Snana Yatra of the holy trinity, Lord Jagannath, Lord Balabhadra, and Goddess Subhadra, is being held at the Jagannath Temple. This traditional ritual marks the beginning of the much-awaited Jagannath Rath Yatra festivities

As per tradition, all three deities will be bathed with 108 pots of sacred water drawn from the golden well inside the temple premises. The Snana Yatra is the only occasion when devotees get a rare chance to witness all three deities together in a grand public ritual before they retreat for Anasara, the fortnight-long period of rest and recovery believed to follow their ceremonial bath.

The Jagannath Rath Yatra 2025 is scheduled to begin on Friday, 27 June 2025, as the Dwitiya Tithi of the Shukla Paksha in Ashadha month will commence on 26 June at 1:25 PM and end on 27 June at 11:19 AM. Based on these timings, the chariot festival, one of the largest and most iconic religious processions in the world, will be held on June 27.

Lakhs of devotees from across India and abroad are expected to throng the temple city of Puri to witness the divine spectacle, where the deities are carried on elaborately decorated chariots through the streets, symbolising their annual visit to their maternal aunt’s house, the Gundicha Temple.
