The Tata Institute of Fundamental Research (TIFR), Hyderabad, under the auspices of the Department of Atomic Energy and the Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO), Government of India, will be conducting about 10 scientific balloon flights from Hyderabad during the period from October 25, 2025 to December 31, 2025.
These balloons, made of thin polyethylene plastic films and measuring 50 to 85 meters in diameter, will be launched from the Balloon Facility of TIFR, ECIL Post Office, Hyderabad between 2000 hrs and 0630 hrs. Filled with hydrogen gas, they will ascend to altitudes ranging from 30 km to 42 km, carrying scientific instruments for high-altitude research.
After experiments at high altitude, the instruments will be released from the balloon and will descend to the ground using large colored parachutes. Depending on wind conditions, these parachutes may drift and land as far as 200 to 350 km from Hyderabad, particularly along the Visakhapatnam–Hyderabad–Sholapur belt.
The balloon and instrument payloads may land in various districts of Andhra Pradesh including East Godavari, West Godavari, Krishna, Guntur, Prakasam, Kurnool, Chittoor, Anantapur, Sri Potti Sriramulu Nellore, Srikakulam, Vizianagaram, YSR Kadapa, and Visakhapatnam.
Public, especially villagers, are requested:
1. Not to tamper with or open any found parachutes, cages, or scientific instruments, as they contain extremely sensitive scientific equipment.
2. To immediately inform the nearest Police Station, Post Office, or District Authorities upon finding such equipment.
3. The instruments are safe and non-hazardous unless forcibly opened.
4. Scientists will collect the instruments and reward the finder along with reimbursement of communication or travel expenses.
5. No reward will be given if the instruments are opened or tampered with.
As villagers may encounter these balloons or instruments, wide publicity is necessary in local languages. District administrations are requested to ensure that information is disseminated in Telugu or other relevant regional languages.
Public cooperation is greatly appreciated.
