Why do we celebrate National Voters' Day?
National Voters' Day was first observed on January 25, 2025. It is a significant initiative that was taken by the Government of India to encourage the citizens of the country to register and participate in the elections. The idea of observing this day was approved during a Cabinet meeting and was chaired by then-Prime Minister Dr Manmohan Singh.The main objective of Voters’ Day is to increase voter enrollment and encourage the youth of the nation to exercise their right and duty to vote. Voters’ Day is also the day to celebrate and uphold Indian democracy. This day aims to spread awareness about the power of voting and the importance of election participation.
Theme of National Voters' Day 2025
This year, India will celebrate the 15th edition of National Voters' Day on January 25 and the Election Commission of India will also commemorate 75 years of dedicated service to the country. The theme of National Voters' Day 2025 is “Nothing Like Voting, I Vote for Sure." Representatives from international management bodies will attend a two-day conference and a dialogue will take place to discuss global electoral challenges.
