Vijayawada, March 2: Women’s Safety Week was observed in Vijayawada with an awareness rally from Satyanarayanapuram Signal to Shivaji Gate. The programme was attended by Home Minister Vangalapudi Anitha as the chief guest.
Women’s Commission Chairperson Rayapati Sailaja, NTR District Collector Lakshmisha, IG Rajakumari, Vijayawada Police Commissioner Rajasekhar Babu, SP Saritha and Eagle SP Nagesh Babu, among others, participated in the rally. Participants raised slogans promoting women’s safety and awareness. On the occasion, the Home Minister unveiled the ‘Shakti Team’ brochure.
Addressing the gathering, Minister Anitha said the NDA government accords high priority to women’s protection. She appreciated the establishment of the Women and Child Safety Wing and stated that crimes against women in the State have reduced by 4.4 percent.
She remarked that when a woman in a household is healthy and empowered, the entire family prospers. Women’s safety, she said, is the cornerstone of societal safety, and women’s development is a measure of national development.
The Minister stressed the need to raise children without gender bias, urging parents to nurture both boys and girls equally and instil responsibility in them. She said respect for women must begin at home and every girl should be regarded with the dignity accorded to a mother or sister.
She added that giving children the courage and problem-solving ability to face challenges is more valuable than leaving behind material wealth. Referring to Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu, she said he has consistently supported women’s empowerment and credited him with implementing 33 percent reservation for women. She also recalled that TDP founder N.T. Rama Rao introduced equal property rights for women.
The Home Minister stated that ‘Sexual Offender Sheets’ would be opened against those involved in crimes against women and strict surveillance would be maintained. She reaffirmed that the State government is committed to respecting and advancing women in all sectors
