For the past few days, there has been considerable buzz that Deepika Padukone was being considered for a lead role in the fourth season of HBO’s Emmy Award-winning series The White Lotus.
However, recent reports indicate that she has declined the offer. According to industry sources, Deepika was reportedly approached not only for the upcoming season but also for the third installment. While she is believed to have passed on the earlier opportunity due to her pregnancy, the latest offer was allegedly turned down over differences related to the casting process.
Auditions are said to be a mandatory component of The White Lotus selection procedure, with the creators insisting on screen tests before finalising actors. Reports suggest that Deepika was not inclined to audition, which ultimately led to the project not moving forward.
So, this could be considered a significant missed Hollywood opportunity for the actress after her international debut in xXx: Return of Xander Cage (2017), which broadened her global reach.
Earlier, she exited Kalki 2898 AD and Spirit, citing disagreements over working terms. Now, The White Lotus appears to join the list of prominent projects she chose not to pursue. At present, Deepika is working on King and AA22.
