Andhra Pradesh to get above-normal rainfall is predicted : IMD

Visakhapatnam: Andhra Pradesh, a rain-fed agriculture-intensive state, is most likely expected to receive above-normal rainfall this southwest monsoon season (June to September). The weather office on Monday released its second stage of long-range forecast of southwest monsoon. It said below-normal monsoon rainfall is expected in northeast India, while normal to above-normal rainfall is predicted for northwest, central, and south peninsular regions

There is a 32 per cent probability that monsoon will be above normal or excess, said S Karuna Sagar, scientist at IMD-Amaravati. Onset of La Nina by August-Sept, which typically brings plentiful rainfall during the monsoon season, and development of a positive Indian Ocean Dipole (IOD) are anticipated. This can enhance rainfall in Southern India, he said. The southwest monsoon is likely to set in over Kerala on June 1 and may enter Andhra Pradesh by June 4 or 5, Karuna Sagar added.
Meanwhile, the mercury levels in parts of Rayalaseema and coastal Andhra Pradesh (CAP) increased by 2 to 3 degrees Celsius. The weatherman said hot and humid weather conditions would continue till the monsoon’s onset. Bapatla was the hottest in the state on Monday with 41°C, followed by 40.9°C in Tirupati, 40.2°C in Machilipatnam, 39.8°C in Jangamaheswarapuram, 39.4°C in Kavali, 39.2°C each in Nellore and Nandigama. Kalingapatnam registered 34.1 and Visakhapatnam 35 degrees Celsius. The remaining parts of the state recorded the maximum temperatures between 35°C and 38°C on Monday
