Tirupati, February 19: Andhra Pradesh Minister for Education, IT, and Electronics, Nara Lokesh, stated that the government is committed to enhancing sports infrastructure and creating a favorable environment for sports in the state. On Wednesday, he inaugurated the Khelo India Multipurpose Indoor Stadium at Sri Padmavathi Mahila University in Tirupati, which was built at a cost of ₹7.5 crore through a collaboration between the Central Government, the Women’s University, and the Sports Authority of Andhra Pradesh (SAAP).
Speaking on the occasion, Minister Lokesh announced plans for the construction of a state-of-the-art International Cricket Stadium and Sports Complex in Amaravati. He emphasized that the newly constructed multipurpose indoor stadium at Padmavathi University would play a crucial role in grooming top-tier women athletes. To encourage the athletes, Lokesh actively participated in a brief shuttle game with them. He also inaugurated aerobics, taekwondo, and yoga meditation centers equipped with advanced facilities.
Encouraging university students and athletes to utilize the newly developed sports facilities, Lokesh expressed hope that they would excel at the state and national levels. University Vice-Chancellor Uma highlighted that this facility provides a significant training platform for aspiring women athletes.
SAAP Chairman Animini Ravi Naidu lauded the Chandrababu Naidu-led coalition government for prioritizing sports development since coming into power. He also commended Minister Lokesh for his dedication and proactive efforts in promoting sports in the state.
The event was attended by State Revenue Minister Anagani Satya Prasad, District Collector Venkateshwar, MLC Balli Kalyan Chakravarthy, MLAs Arani Srinivasulu, Pulivarthi Nani, Bojjala Sudheer Reddy, Legislative Council Member Kancherla Srikanth, University VC Prof. Uma, Registrar Rajani, IIT Director Satyanarayana, and other dignitaries.
