Tirupati: Director General of Police K. Rajendranath Reddy on Wednesday said of 26,000 missing persons' cases reported in the state over the past three years, approximately 23,300 individuals have been successfully identified and reunited with their families.

Speaking to media after a crime review meeting in Kurnool, the DGP emphasised that the state has witnessed a notable reduction in overall crimes due to dedicated efforts of law enforcement agencies.

Rajendranath Reddy underlined that implementation of the conviction-based policing system from 2022 has yielded positive results, with 100 out of 122 serious criminal cases already being investigated using this approach. "The conviction-based policing system has been highly effective, especially in cases related to crimes against women, POCSO cases, and other serious offenses. By focusing on a conviction-oriented approach, we have achieved a record 62 percent conviction rate in 1,400 cases where the trial has been completed," the DGP stated.

He revealed that this year, total 13,000 cases have been allocated under the conviction-based policing initiative, with an average of 10 cases assigned per police officer. The DGP highlighted the speedy resolution of serious crimes through targeted fast-track courts, where cases are being solved within three months.

As part of their efforts to maintain law and order, Rajendranath Reddy said the police force has been closely monitoring anti-social elements, leading to invocation of Preventive Detention (PD) Act on 35 individuals linked to gangs of rowdies and illegal liquor trade last year.

Elaborating on Kurnool and Nandyal districts, he revealed a reduction in crime rates in the past six months when compared to statistics of the last three years. "Kurnool district witnessed a significant 27 per cent decline in grave crimes, such as bodily offenses, murder, dowry deaths, and attempted murder, while Nandyal district saw a 25 per cent reduction in bodily offenses," he maintained.

The DGP said crimes against women have seen a noteworthy decline, with a 46 per cent reduction reported in Kurnool district and an impressive 65 per cent decrease in Nandyal. He credited the "Disha" app for playing a crucial role in controlling crimes against women, as it has provided a platform for victims to register complaints and seek timely assistance.

In terms of road safety, Kurnool district recorded a 39 per cent decrease in road accidents, while Nandyal witnessed a 36 per cent decline. Crimes against SCs and STs have reduced by 27 per cent in the erstwhile district, he added.
