State Civil Supplies Minister Nadendla Manohar
Amravati, March 26 State Minister for Civil Supplies, Food and Consumer Affairs, Nadendla Manohar said that the target is to provide more than one lakh Piped Natural Gas (PNG) connections in a month across the state. Minister Nadendla Manohar said this at a press conference held at the AP Secretariat on Thursday on the increase in PNG connections, a key decision approved by the State Cabinet. Speaking on the occasion, he said that the consumers of LPG cylinders in Vijayawada, Guntur, Nellore, Kakinada, Visakhapatnam, Tirupati and other cities of the state are being diverted to Piped Natural Gas (PNG) in their respective cities. Apart from the continuous supply of gas through PNG, apartments and industrial units using this facility will get incentives from the central government.
Steps are also being taken to provide PNG connections to prominent shrines like Tirupati, Vijayawada Kanakadurga Devasthanam, Sri Kalahasti, Annavaram and Simhachalam temples. We have also decided to provide PNG connections to all the canteens.
Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu has directed the officials to take steps to increase the PNG connections. Steps have been taken to provide connections to commercial units and industrial units, including apartments and hotels, which have applied for PNG connections, within 24 hours. If necessary, an automatic permit system will be implemented. Minister Nadendla Manohar said that consumers were not interested in using PNG due to the increase in GST from 5 per cent to 25 per cent by the previous government. He said steps are being taken to make the lamp subsidy scheme applicable to PNG consumers as well. While free cylinders will be provided once in four months under the Deepam scheme, changes will be made so that PNG customers get the benefit of subsidy once in two months as per the rules. Three cylinders of Rs. The amount of 2400 DBT will be transferred to PNG customers. There are about 94 lakh beneficiaries of the scheme in the state.
Condemning the rumours circulating on social media, Minister Nadendla Manohar clarified that there is no shortage of gas anywhere in the state. At present, about 2 lakh 70 thousand gas cylinders are being supplied every day. However, due to rumours on social media that there is a shortage of gas, customers have booked gas cylinders even if they do not need it. But the situation is currently adverse. Normally, 2.70 lakh to 2.80 lakh cylinders are delivered per day and 3.30 lakh cylinders are also delivered per day. Strict action has been taken against those involved in black-marketing of gas and oil and selling it by increasing prices.
State Civil Supplies Commissioner Saurav Gaur was also present in the meeting.
