Chief Minister Nara Chandrababu Naidu has said the government has shortlisted nearly 13 lakh Bangaru Kutumbalu under the P4 initiative so far for special assistance. “We would handhold them on their development journey. About 1.4 lakh industrialists, entrepreneurs, and NRIs have volunteered to join the endeavour as Margadarsis,” the CM said on Tuesday when he formally launched the P4 initiative at CK Convention in Mangalagiri
The CM explained that the endeavour was aimed at empowering underprivileged families through mentorship and support. Announcing a major health initiative, the chief minister said Andhra Pradesh would soon launch a Sanjeevani programme in collaboration with the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation. “We have already established a Digital Nerve Centre in Kuppam. Soon it would be expanded across Chittoor district and later the entire state,” he said, underscoring the government’s commitment to preventive public healthcare
Naidu said the P4 scheme would be monitored daily and reviewed quarterly. “Every decision of the government is for the benefit of the poor,” he said while interacting with the Golden Families and Mentors. The P4 scheme, announced during Ugadi, pairs families from weaker sections with voluntary mentors who have made a commitment to work for their welfare. “Poverty eradication was NTR’s philosophy. We believe society itself is a temple and the people are divine. That is why we think for the poor every single day,” Naidu said, adding that while reforms had created wealth, it was now time to reduce inequalities through direct engagement.
Declaring that he himself had taken on the role of a Mentor, the CM said, “I have adopted 250 families in my Kuppam constituency. However busy I may be as CM and party chief, I will dedicate time to them. The support of Margadarsis must be productively utilised so that Bangaru families can grow.” Recalling the philanthropy of an anonymous devotee who donated 121kg of gold worth Rs 140 crore to Lord Venkateswara recently, Naidu said true satisfaction comes not from wealth alone but from serving the poor.
Urging mentors not to restrict their role to financial help, Naidu said: “Margadarsis must stand by families as a source of confidence. Nothing in life is permanent. People are remembered for the good they do, just as Dokka Seethamma is remembered as a mother to the poor.” Stressing that welfare requires resources, Naidu said, “To deliver assistance, wealth has to be created. We are a government that generates wealth and shares it with the poor. No other state has attempted welfare on this scale,” he declared. Listing recent initiatives, he said pensions and Annadata Sukhibhava payments had been released, while the Talliki Vandanam scheme benefitting mothers and the free travel programme for girl students had also been rolled out this month. LPG cylinders were also being distributed free to women to curb the return to firewood cooking. The linked the new measures to his long-term Swarnandhra Vision 2047, describing it as the roadmap for the next 22 years, similar to his earlier Vision 2020 plan. “Continuity in governance is vital to achieve these goals. Development must not be derailed,” he emphasized. Naidu interacted with NRIs via Zoom, and several of them pledged to adopt poor families under P4. The event also saw emotional testimonials from beneficiaries, including Pavani from Krishna district, who broke down while sharing how she secured a job at HCL through P4. Marking the symbolic gesture of adoption, the chief minister handed over an “Adopt A Tree” gift to a Bangaru family in Kuppam. The event was attended by P4 Foundation vice-chairman C Kutumba Rao, AP NRTS president Vemuri Ravi Kumar and senior Planning department officials
