Vadde Obanna Jayanti Now an Official State Celebration
Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister Nara Chandrababu Naidu announced that Vadde Obanna Jayanti will now be officially celebrated as a state event.
In a message shared on X (formerly Twitter), the Chief Minister highlighted Obanna's significant contributions to the freedom struggle and his role in Telugu history. Chandrababu Naidu stated, "The Sepoy Mutiny of 1857 is often referred to as the First War of Independence. However, even before that, in 1846, Vadde Obanna, a valiant warrior from Telugu land, joined hands with Uyyalawada Narasimha Reddy to heroically fight against the atrocities of the British, upholding the pride and self-respect of the Telugu people."
The Chief Minister emphasized the importance of remembering such unsung heroes and their sacrifices. "To honor the legacy of Vadde Obanna, the heroic warrior of Renadu, and to bring his story to future generations, we have decided to officially celebrate Obanna Jayanti. On this occasion, let us remember and commemorate the inspiring saga of this great leader, the son of the BC community and a true freedom fighter," he added.
Minister Nara Lokesh also paid his tributes, sharing a heartfelt message on X. He wrote, "On the occasion of freedom fighter and Uyyalawada Narasimha Reddy’s commander Vadde Obanna Jayanti, I pay my heartfelt tributes to this great leader. The state government is officially celebrating Vadde Obanna Jayanti to honor his legacy. Even before the First War of Independence, Vadde Obanna, the warrior of Renadu, led one of South India’s earliest revolts against the atrocities of British colonial rulers. His history is unforgettable. Let us strive to build a better society by upholding the values and ideals of Vadde Obanna."
The state-level celebrations of Vadde Obanna Jayanti aim to commemorate his contributions to the independence movement and ensure that his story is passed on to future generations.
