Let’s strive hard to make AP power sector, the best in the Country- Special CS Energy, K Vijayanand
With the strong commitment of the State government to make Andhra Pradesh as the best destination for cost effective power that benefits every consumer in the State, boost industrial & economic development and strengthen power sector, the energy department is fully focusing on realization of the MoUs entered for investments in the energy sector worth around Rs. 9.57 lakh crore, with potential to create around 1.8 lakh employment opportunities.
Accordingly, the energy department is planning to frame a special mechanism to achieve this gigantic task of realization of all the investments in the energy sector in a phased manner by taking support from the concerned departments. The remarkable efforts of State government have attracted huge investments in energy sector that will help in enhancing the green energy in the State at a faster pace. This is expected to give lucrative solutions to enhance energy security, reduce energy intensity on finances and protect environment in the coming years.
During the review with power utilities on the investments in energy sector, disclosing the above, the Special Chief Secretary K Vijayanand emphasized the need to focus on realization of the 42 MoUs signed for energy sector in the GIS summit in March-2023 worth Rs. 9.57 lakh Crore that includes investments for 25 GW renewable energy capacities in the districts of Ananthapur, Kurnool, Kadapa, Visakhapatnam, and Vizianagaram etc. The State has entered in to MoUs prior to GIS summit for green energy projects worth Rs.81,000 crore. “Materializing and grounding all these investments will make the energy sector in Andhra Pradesh create new growth opportunities, job creation and sustainable development.”, Vijayanand said.
“The State has a congenial atmosphere for renewable energy generation with plenty of solar and wind energy resources and a transparent policy and regulatory environment. The state has already made advancement in promoting renewable energy sources through renewable energy export policy. The Govt. is taking measures to establish hybrid pumped hydro storage projects, development of solar parks and promotion of roof top solar installations and also taking steps to promote energy storage, which is critical for the integration of renewable energy into the grid. The State has already identified Pumped hydro storage power projects (PSP) at 29 locations with total potential of 33,200 MW”, said Vijayanand.
He also said that the future of green energy sector in AP appear very bright with the state government’s commitment to renewable energy, favorable policies, and abundant resources that helped in getting investments in green energy sector of Andhra Pradesh. “The state government’s push for green energy and increasingly favorable economic situation has developed a significant interest among investors and made the State one of the most attractive renewable energy destinations in the country. AP would become the best state in the country for cost effective power when all the MoUs made in energy sector gets materialized” special CS said.
Speaking about energy transition from fossil fuels to Renewables, special CS mentioned about a research report of a Think Tank ‘climate change Horizon’, wherein it was stated that Andhra Pradesh can save over Rs. 76,000 crore in the coming decade by retiring old coal units as part of a planned energy transition, while still meeting the State’s growing energy requirements. The report also says that replacing expensive coal units with cheaper renewable energy has three-fold benefits of reducing electricity costs for consumers; improve financial performance of DISCOMs and helping the state achieve its renewable energy targets, he said
“The major benefit of Renewable energy sources is they can generate energy that produces no greenhouse gas emissions and reduces some types of air pollution compared to fossil fuels like coal etc. Other benefits are energy supply can be diversified and dependence on imported fuels can be reduced. This clearly indicates the rich potential and sustainable future of green energy in Andhra Pradesh”, he said.
While thanking Chief Minister Y S JaganMohan Reddy and Minister for energy Peddireddi Ramachandra Reddy for assigning additional charge as CMD APTRANSCO, special CS said that the State Govt. is taking special measures to increase the power generation capacity in the state to ensure uninterrupted 24x7 quality and reliable power supply at cost-effective rates to the consumers even in the future. He directed Power utilities to put all out efforts to meet whatever energy demand arises and achieve self-sufficiency in the power sector.
KVN Chakradhar Babu, MD APGENCO & JMD APTRANSCO, I Prudhvi Tej (who is going to take charge as CMD/APEPDCL soon), J PadmaJanardhana Reddy, CMD/APCPDCL, K Santosha Rao, CMD/APSPDCL , S Ramana Reddy,VC & MD of NREDCAP and other senior officials have participated.
