AP TRANSCO become No.1 transmission utility in the country as Serve the consumers
- APTRANSCO initiated the implementation of Geographical Information System (GIS) with an objective to maintain assets of all Extra High Tension (EHT) Network elements
- GIS facilitates the field Engineers for planning effective maintenance activities and helps the Power System Engineers to conduct System Studies efficiently
- APTRANSCO taking measures to reduce transmission losses under 2.8 per cent
- APTRANSCO adopted innovative models like day ahead forecasting model
- Main purpose of Energy forecasting is to ensure 24x7 quality power, meet future requirements and to reduce cost.
- Several states including Tamil Nadu, Rajasthan etc. evinced keen interest and requested AP government to share the best practices in power sector
- Best practices would help the utilities to supply 24x7 power with highest quality and reliability
With the objective to plan, construct and maintain the transmission network in Andhra Pradesh in line with demand growth and generation expansion in an efficient manner, the Transmission Corporation of Andhra Pradesh (APTRANSCO) is implementing several best practices so as to ensure highest power availability and lowest operational costs and maintain the same tempo to continue not only as the best power transmission utility but also become the No.1 in the country in near future.
APTRANSCO initiated the implementation of Geographical Information System (GIS) that facilitates better Network Maintenance and Monitoring Information System with an objective to maintain assets of all Extra High Tension (EHT) Network elements comprising details of 63,000 towers, 30,010 Circuit kilo meters (ckm) of line length and 358 EHT Substations equipment details
An exclusive GIS division was formed for this purpose and entire network data was mapped geographically onto a single platform with the active support of field officers. This facilitated the field Engineers for planning effective maintenance activities and conducting preliminary survey by accessing the data through geographic maps and also helped the Power System Engineers to conduct System Studies efficiently.
Apart from GIS, APTRANSCO is taking measures to reduce transmission losses under 2.8 per cent. It has also developed in-house demand forecasting model which facilitates cost effective power purchases. The main purpose of Energy forecasting is to ensure 24x7 quality and reliable power supply, meet future requirements and to reduce costs. Forecasting of day-ahead electricity requirement plays an essential role in the power utilities, as it provides the basis for making decisions to purchase cheaper power in power market, to make use of low-cost power generators and to benefit the consumers with this low-cost energy.
APSLDC (State Load Dispatch Center) has developed in-house forecasting model by using more sophisticated Artificial Intelligence & Machine learning methods with accuracy of 97% to 99%. Forecasting of electricity using these advanced techniques, achieved very accurate energy and power requirement to plan in advance. With this advanced Artificial Intelligence energy forecasting technique, good savings were achieved in energy purchase cost to AP power sector.
The objective is to effectively maintain the Demand and Generation matching, duly observing merit order dispatch and Indian Electricity Grid Code (IEGC) regulations in an efficient & cost-effective manner so as to ensure uninterrupted power supply and lowest operational disturbances in the state of Andhra Pradesh. The developed demand forecast model by APSLDC using Artificial Intelligence (AI) is first of its kind in the power utilities across the nation.
While reviewing the above developments in power sector particularly APTRANSCO in view of winning SKOCH awards (Gold & Silver), the special chief secretary energy K Vijayanand appreciated the efforts of APTRANSCO and said that several states including Tamil Nadu, Rajasthan etc. evinced keen interest on this model and requested AP government to share the best practices and requested for power point presentation particularly in day ahead forecasting model of APTRANSCO, various Green energy projects of APGENCO, NREDCAP and energy efficiency programs of APSECM etc.
He also mentioned that within a short span of 2 months, AP power utilities have achieved six major awards at National level and in particular the No.1 National Energy Conservation Award received from the highest constitutional authority of India, the Honorable President of India Smt Draupadi Murmu on 14th December-2022.
All these best practices would help the utilities to supply 24x7 power with highest quality and reliability even to the remotest household in the State which is the ultimate objective of Chief Minister Y S JaganMohan Reddy and Energy Minister Peddireddi Ramachandra Reddy, said special CS energy.
While explaining the various innovative initiatives of APTRANSCO to the Special CS energy during a virtual review, the Chairman & Managing Director of APTRANSCO B Sreedhar further said that as part of construction works in APTRANSCO, presently construction of three 400 kV substations will be started shortly which will benefit the 5 districts of APEPDCL. Several other projects for 9 hours day time power supply to agriculture and system improvement works are under progress valuing around Rs 500 crore. Most of the works under Green Energy Corridor (GEC) Scheme are completed and the remaining all works are in advanced stage of completion, CMD APTRANSCO Sreedhar said.
He thanked Special Chief Secretary and State government for their support to APTRANSCO in achieving the SKOCH award and said APTRANSCO will put all out efforts and take strong steps to become the best power transmission Utility in the country. He appreciated Director Grid APTRANSCO AKV Bhaskar and concerned engineers who have contributed towards GIS system and day ahead forecasting model initiatives.
JMD HRD, Admin, I Prudhvi Tej, JMD Vigilance & Security, B Malla Reddy, Director Finance, T Veerabhadra Reddy and other senior officials have participated.
