Even as the Andhra Pradesh Power Utilities have already been supplying the best quality of 24x7 power, the special chief secretary energy directed the power utilities to now fully focus on providing highly qualitative, reliable cost effective power to general public as well as industries at world class standards since power supply is considered one of the backbone to the economic development of the state.
In view of the forthcoming high level meeting on Pay Revision Committee (PRC)-2022 to be held on 26 April, 2023, with AP electricity employee’s joint action committee (EEJAC) to be chaired by the Chief Secretary to Govt. K S Jawahar Reddy, the special chief secretary energy K Vijayanand conducted an internal review meeting on the PRC issues and other power sector developments with APGENCO and APTRANSCO & AP DISCOMs.
Stating that the employees of AP power utilities were technically more efficient and committed than any other in the country, the special CS commended the services of employees in providing 24x7 quality power supply. “Employees are like pillars to the power sector and key to success of sector in the State. The consumers and employees are two eyes for the government and it wants the full cooperation of employees to strengthen sector and deliver the best services to consumers” Vijayanand said.
He has appealed employees/engineers of power utilities to continue their co-operation to strengthen power sector and resolve various challenges being faced by the sector which helps to reach ultimate target of making power sector No.1 in the country. Energy department had fully focused on achieving cost effective power as desired by Chief Minister, Y S JaganMohan Reddy and Energy Minister Peddireddi Ramachandra Reddy, which would benefit every consumer in the State and boost industrial and economic development. “The efforts of employees are the key to achieve the cost effective power. The power utilities have been making constructive efforts in these directions”, special CS said.
During the review, K V N Chakradhar Babu, Managing Director of APGENCO & JMD APTRANSCO said that the Andhra Pradesh Power Generation Corporation Limited(APGENCO) is geared up to explore all possible ways to enhance power generation capacities to meet the expected higher daily grid demand. As per the data of State Load Dispatch Center of APTRANSCO, the power demand had increased manifold in the State and reached a record high in the range of 240 to 245 Million Units (MU) in April-2023 with increase of temperatures up to 40 to 45 degrees in the State. The average power consumption in the month of April-2023 is increased by 5 to 6 percent for the corresponding demand in April-2022. It is expected that demand may reach 250 MU per day in the coming days.
Explaining about the project highlights of AP Power Development Corporation Limited (APPDCL)-Sri Damodara Sanjeeviah Thermal Power Station (SDSTPS)-Stage-II-1X800 MW, MD APGENCO said the Supercritical Unit-3 of 800MW capacity taken up as Stage-II of SDSTPS is in operation since March 10, 2023 and is contributing to the daily consumption with around 16 MU of energy and it came in handy to meet the rising demand of AP state Grid. This unit has generated its highest generation of 17.304 MU with a maximum load of 793 MW on April 15, 2023. Being a super critical unit, it is advantageous with higher efficiency/Plant Load Factor (PLF) with drastic reduction of CO2 emissions and economical in power generation compared to sub-critical units, he said.
While thanking Dr ManMohan Singh for timely submission of PRC report to the government, the special CS energy said the power sector would be progressive only when the consumers are given best, quality and timely services. “The State government will never compromise on the welfare of employees and consumers. Without power sector we cannot imagine the economic development of the State. Without the support of the employee community and consumers, we cannot imagine the sustainability of the sector. Hence both employees and consumers are two eyes for the government”, he said.
He expressed happiness that 1x800 MW Dr. Narla Tatarao Thermal Power Station (Dr NTTPS) is going to be light up within one month and commercial operation date would be after 3 months of light up of the unit.
According to GoI reports, AP is one of the best states in power supply with negligible interruptions. With unique initiatives such as procurement of power from Solar Energy Corporation of India (SECI) at cost effective price, 9 hours day time free power supply to agriculture, prestigious presidential award and other National awards and many more achievements resulted in befitting recognition to State Govt. All these achievements would not have been possible without the unstinted efforts of the employees. To recognize the best efforts of employees, every year awards are being given to best performing individuals in power sector. “Let us redouble our efforts with zeal & passion and strive hard to make the sector self sufficient”, Special CS said.
AP power sector employees congratulated and felicitated Special CS energy for his coveted position as chairperson for Southern region power committee (SRPC). Directors of APTRANSCO, AVK Bhaskar, T Veera Bhadra Reddy and APGENCO Directors Chandrasekhara Raju, Antony Raja, and other senior officials, Representatives from Electricity Employees unions, associations have participated in the meeting.
