    AP suffered loss of Rs 5,244 cr: preliminary sent to central govt

    AMARAVATI: Andhra Pradesh suffered a loss of Rs 5,244 crore due to Montha cyclone, according to preliminary report submitted by Chief Secretary K Vijayanand to Central government. He said the cyclone affected  1434 villages and 48 urban areas and highest rain fall was reported in 161 mandals.

    The Chief Secretary said 4,794 km R&B roads, 311 culverts and bridges were damaged resulting in a loss of Rs 2,794 crore. In addition 862 km of panchayat raj roads, culverts and bridges were also damaged resulting in loss of Rs 454 crore. Infrastructure in urban areas suffered loss of Rs 109 crore.

    Coming to agriculture sector, he said agricultural produce in 1.38 lakh hectares was damaged resulting in a loss of Rs 829 crore and 1.74 lakh farmers suffered loss. He said horticulture in 12,215 hectares worth Rs 40 crore was damaged resulting in loss to 23,979 farmers. Aqua sector suffered loss of Rs 514 crore and 2,261 animals perished.

    The Chief Secretary in his report stated that the power sector suffered loss of Rs 19 crore with falling of 2,817 electrical poles and snapping of power lines. The irrigation sector loss is estimated to be around Rs 234 crore  and 3,045 houses were damaged in 23 districts. Health sector suffered a loss of Rs 122 crore with damage of anganwadis, primary health centres and community health centres. He said 1,36,907 people were rehabilitated in 1464 relief camps and the government spent Rs 32 crore towards relief and rehabilitation programme so far.
