APERC chairman said that the availability of reliable, quality and affordable power would help the rapid agricultural and industrial growth in the State and spur overall economic development. The APERC and power utilities should work in congruence to reach the future goals and challenges. The APERC would keep consumers interest in mind while making every decision, he said.
“Protecting the consumer’s interests and strengthening the power utilities are the main objectives of the Commission and the APERC is making every effort to be precise to the regulatory role it has to play in performance of its statutory functions and duties. As India’s power sector is undergoing a significant change, the Commission advises special chief secretary energy K Vijayanand and the power utilities to strive hard to lead the State in the rapid growth of power sector,” he said
Disclosing the above, On the occasion of forthcoming 18th State Advisory Meeting at Tirupati on 20th Feb-2023 (Monday) APERC chairman Justice C V Nagarjuna Reddy along with members of APERC P Rajagopal Reddy, Takur Ram singh has conducted a video conference on various aspects of power sector, ARR and energy efficiency in particular and advised DISCOMs to make all necessary arrangements as per schedule for sale of modern Energy-Efficient (EE) appliances in domestic sector as part of promoting energy efficiency to every household and make them aware of saving electricity and protecting environment.
With the insightful decision and consent of APERC to benefit electricity consumers as well as DISCOMs through energy efficient appliances project that would help in reducing peak demand and help for 24x7 quality and reliable power supply to consumers., the APSEEDCO has issued tenders for procurement of energy efficient appliances such as LED Tube Lights, Brushless Direct Current (BLDC) ceiling Fans and Air conditioners which help domestic consumers to save electricity and reduce their electricity bills as well as lower environmental impact.
The tenders for procurement shall be finalized by 15th March-2023 and thereafter the energy efficient home appliances would be facilitated to consumers through on-bill financing model and upfront model in strategic locations in Vijayawada, Visakhapatnam and Tirupati. The government is planning to facilitate the energy efficient appliances to the entire state in a phased manner, based on the success of the pilot project.
The Commission is playing a proactive role in promoting energy efficiency and energy conservation in the State and the Andhra Pradesh stands top in energy conservation to which the Commission made its valuable contribution. As part of protecting consumer’s interest, the Commission has given directives for Automatic compensation payment to consumers in respect of services like fuse of calls, processing of new applications for release of new connections and wrongful disconnection of services etc. , that has been introduced and strictly implemented. Also, as per the Commission's directives the DISCOMS are publishing the seniority list of applicants for free agricultural electricity connection on their websites to ensure transparency, said chairman APERC.
Also, APERC have taken steps to renew the Sick Industrial Policy to avoid the burden of minimum charges during periods of prolonged closure of industrial units due to various reasons. The Commission undertakes regular field visits to monitor the network, service, progress of works and performance of all licensees
