As part of objective of enhancing power generation capacities in the State to meet the rising energy demand and supply 24x7 quality and cost effective power to the electricity consumers in the State, the Andhra Pradesh Power Generation Corporation (APGENCO) has taken yet another key step and successfully synchronized the new 800-MW unit #8 (Stage-V) of Dr. Narla Tatarao Thermal Power Station (NTTPS) to Grid on 11 June 2023 at 09:07 hrs after conducting all tests and completion of commissioning activities.
During a meeting on this occasion, the Special Chief Secretary to Govt. (Energy department) and APGENCO Chairman K. Vijayanand garu and AP-Genco Managing Director K.V.N. Chakradhar Babu garu congratulated APGENCO team, BHEL and BGR epc contractors in achieving this milestone and hope with same spirit and dedication, all will work towards achieving the Unit CoD by Last week of July2023. They also expressed gratitude to Hon’ble Chief Minister Y S JaganMohan Reddy garu, Hon’ble energy minister Peddireddi Ramachandra Reddy garu for all the support and guidance extended to APGENCO from time to time

The unit is provided with etp, and zero discharge for saving of water. The unit requires around 9500MT of coal per day to run at full load and provisioned for 100% ash utilization
Recently in the month of march, 800 Mw unit-3 of Sri Damodaram Sanjeevaiah Thermal Power Station (SDSTPS)at Nellore was also commissioned and COD completed. With the trial operation of this NTTPS new unit, the AP Thermal Installed capacity of APGENCO reaches to 8789MW MW. Nationally, In recent times, in AP alone, 2 No’s 800MW supercritical units were commissioned.
GENCO is supplying around 102 to 105 Million Units to the state grid on daily basis which is around 40 to 45% of the total consumption and is highest ever after bifurcation of the state. APGENCO is taking all necessary steps to improve coal stocks and also ensuring cost effective and efficient generation of power at better heat rate and optimization of fuel resources. Efforts are being made to adopt the best practices, improve operational efficiency and reduce emissions. APGENCO will strive hard to be the best organization at national level in power generation and maintaining highest Plant Load Factor (PLF)” MD GENCO said. He also said that the power utilities are striving hard to meet the objective of State government to provide 24x7 power to all categories of consumers in the State and 9 hours day time power to agriculture.
