APSEEDCO successful in deploying Energy Efficient Submersible motor with (IPMSM) technology
A unique step towards Research and Development in Energy Efficiency
– Advises Special Chief Secretary Energy, Sri K Vijayanand
Vijayawada: In tune with the objective of promoting innovative energy efficiency technologies in the State, AP State Energy Efficiency Development Corporation Limited (APSEEDCO), a joint venture of AP Power utilities has successfully designed and developed an Energy Efficient Submersible Motor with Interior Permanent Magnet Synchronus Motor (IPMSM) technology as a research project with the support of Andhra University.
The Special Chief Secretary Energy, Sri K Vijayanand inaugurated Model IPMSM motor set in APSEEDCO office at Vidyut Soudha in Vijayawada on Friday and congratulated APSEEDCO for its efforts towards Energy Efficiency Research and Development activities. He advised APSEEDCO to continue their focus on innovation and research that can help to reach the energy efficiency goals of the State as large scale implementation can lower the cost of manufacturing/production by improving the process and allows organization to be more competitive in the market.
Special chief secretary energy said that Agriculture pump sets play significant role in agriculture and farmers life journey. “Adoption of IPMSM motors will help to conserve energy and enhance energy efficiency in the agriculture sector. He emphasized the need for pilot implementation of the IPMSM technology in APEPDCL in around 20 Agricultural pump sets with funding support of Bureau of Energy Efficiency through AP State Energy Conservation Mission (APSECM).
Demonstrating the Model IPMSM motor set, CEO APSECM BAVP Kumara Reddy along with APSEEDCO technical HEAD G Sreenivasulu and Andhra University Professor P Mallikarjun Rao, explained that the IPMSM motors offer a great alternative to the traditional electric motors and consumes less power when compared to induction motors This technology contributes to increased efficiency, reliability, and durability of these motors and power factor improvement. These are also ideal for use in applications with varied loads such as solar water pumps. ” officials explained.
Officials also said that IPMSM is one such technology which will improve motor efficiency to 90 % against the existing efficiency of 80% with Induction motor technology. “The life expectancy of the IPMSM system is around 15 to 20 years due to high grade materials as compared to conventional AC motor life span of around 10 years”, officials said.
Officials further that Andhra University has developed a design protocol for an electrical motor drive system tailored for submersible water pumping applications and a system that offers superior efficiency, compactness, and durability compared to conventional AC induction motor technology, with an optimal efficiency surpassing current market offerings.
The research team of Andhra University has explored the economic viability of implementing IPMSM technology in the domestic and agricultural sectors and established a methodology for the IPMSM system specifically for submersible water pumps and created a prototype model showcasing the energy-efficient motor drive technology with a compact and efficient drive & control system
The team of Andhra University thanked Special Chief Secretary Energy and MD APSEEDCO for their co-operation to Andhra University in completion of research project.
