BEE,GoI asks State Designated Agencies to submit action plan for awareness creation on LiFE (Life Style for Environment) Mission

Vijayawada, 11-05-2023: In view of the forthcoming world environment day on June 5, 2023, the Union Ministry of Power led Bureau of Energy Efficiency (BEE) has given targets to all the State Designated Agencies (SDAs) to propagate Mission LiFE (Lifestyle for Environment) in a big way and asked them to submit a comprehensive action plan for organizing awareness activities on a mission mode involving wide variety of stakeholders on LiFE movement which is considered as lifeline for future generations.
The BEE, GoI asked SDAs including Andhra Pradesh State Energy Conservation Mission(APSECM), SDA of AP to create awareness on energy efficiency/energy conservation actions of LiFE Mission among school students through energy clubs apart from general awareness programs for households, Agricultural demand side management program for farmers, Municipal Demand Side Management for municipalities, Electric vehicle(EV) Campaign for general public and Retailers training program for appliance retailers.
Addressing all the SDAs during a webinar on LiFE activities, on behalf of director general BEE Abhay Bakre, the Secretary BEE, Milind Deore said that the Ministry of environment, forests and climate change has given a responsibility to promote and propagate LiFE mission activities that is aimed at addressing climate change. “The Government of India wants LiFE mission activities to be propagated in a very large scale in the context of World Environment day on 5th June-2023. The GoI has asked all the ministries to conduct large scale activities to sensitize the citizens for LiFE. In this regard, the union ministry of power also asked to carry out activities to sensitize general public”, Secretary BEE said.
He also said that a dedicated app and portal “Meri Life” was created where in SDAs shall create their own login and upload all the LiFE events/programs details. Every State should perform a concluding program on 5th June 2023 on the awareness activities of LiFE mission. Theme wise creative’s are in open format and are being prepared by ministry of environment which can be useful for awareness creation, he said.
He disclosed that the LiFE comprises of seven categories of activities that include Energy savings, water conservation, single use plastic, sustainable food system, swachattha actions, Healthy Lifestyles and E-waste reduction which are specific and measurable, easy to practice by individuals, communities and institutions etc. Energy savings theme of LiFE has got 19 comprehensive and non- exhaustive list of individual LiFE actionable points of energy savings out of total 75 actionable points in 7 Categories, he said.
He along with Director BEE Sunil Kumar Verma who is nodal officer from BEE for LiFE mission and Joint Director SDA division Abhishek Sharma, advised SDAs who have already created energy clubs in the schools to go for awareness programs on LiFE through students as children are catalysts or change agents who can sensitize their family members interms of the LiFE activities. He asked the Nodal officers of all SDAs to prepare a detailed action plan with activities calendar for this month which would be showcased during the concluding session of world environment day.
APSECM officials explained that energy clubs were constituted in 156 model schools of AP with support of BEE and AP School education dept. "A Detailed action plan for carrying LiFE awareness activities involving different categories of target audience including students, farmers, Households, Municipalities etc. shall be submitted to BEE very soon. Mr U Srinivas, Deputy executive engineer has been nominated as the nodal officer on behalf of APSECM, SDA of AP for organizing LiFE events ", officials said.
Stating that the Director General BEE, Abhay Bakre has discussed on several occasions with Ministry of environment and forests about prestigious LiFE mission and its future impact, the secretary BEE explained all SDAs that LIFE is designed with the objective to mobilize at least one billion Indians and other global citizens to take individual and collective action for protecting and conserving the environment by 2028.
“Within India, at least 80 percent of all villages and urban local bodies are aimed to become environment-friendly by 2028.Changing individual and community behavior alone can have a great effect on the environmental and climate crisis. Individual LiFE actions are mostly specific and measurable, easy to practice by individuals, communities and institutions and Non-disruptive to ongoing economic activity and in fact promoting economic activity in the future”, he said
