    BEE to showcase AP Bhavan in energy efficiency front at New Delhi : Secretary BEE, R K Rai

      As part of the objective to promote energy conservation and energy efficiency programs aggressively across the Nation and reach the country’s target of reduction of one billion tonnes of CO2 by 2030 , the Union Ministry Of Power led Bureau of Energy Efficiency (BEE) has taken a new initiative towards focusing on energy efficiency measures in various bhavans of the States situated in New Delhi and decided to start the energy efficiency demonstration from Andhra Pradesh Bhavan in the first phase and contemplating to implement the same in other State Bhavans/Buildings in New Delhi in a phased manner.

    On behalf of Director General of BEE Abhay Bhakre, the Secretary of BEE R K Rai, held a meeting at AP Bhavan with the Principal Resident Commissioner of Andhra Pradesh Bhavan and former chief secretary of AP, Adityanadh Das on energy efficiency measures in AP Bhavan participated by joint director BEE Abhishek Sharma, Additional commissioner AP Bhavan N V Ramana Reddy and  CEO APSECM A Chandrasekhara Reddy.

    During the meeting, R K Rai said that BEE has decided to support Andhra Bhavan in implementing energy efficiency measures as recommended in the investment grade energy audit (IGEA) conducted by Andhra Pradesh State Energy Conservation Mission (APSECM), State Designated Agency of AP with financial assistance from BEE without any burden on AP Bhavan.

    Secretary BEE further said that the Andhra Pradesh bhavan would become the first State Bhavan in the National Capital Delhi that would implement energy efficiency measures and contribute towards national goal of reducing carbon emissions. “Any State can benefit from increased energy efficiency because it will support their efforts to achieve energy independence, open up new avenues for economic growth and job creation, lower their energy bills, and lessen their impact on the environment by decreasing their consumption of fossil fuels and emissions of greenhouse gases”, he said

    “With the advent of exponential hikes in the costs of different forms of energy, Energy Audit is manifesting its due importance in every establishment. Energy Audit helps to understand more about the ways energy is used in any establishment and helps in identifying areas where energy wastage may occur and scope for improvement exists” Secretary BEE said.

    Principal Resident Commissioner of Andhra Bhavan Adityanadh Das thanked Bureau of Energy Efficiency for choosing AP bhavan to implement energy efficiency measures in their premises with free of cost and assured full cooperation for implementation of the energy efficiency demonstration project. He congratulated APSECM for their proactive approach in implementing energy efficiency programs and achieving National Energy Conservation Award-2022. 

    Delhi, being the National capital of India, states and union territories of the country have its Bhawans or guest houses in Delhi so that proper coordination exists between the states and the national capital. Among these, Andhra Pradesh Bhavan popularly known as AP Bhavan is a Government of Andhra Pradesh owned property in New Delhi. It has accommodation, canteen and auditorium in the premises. AP Bhavan has suites for the Governor and the Chief Minister apart from other rooms for the state Government officials visiting capital.

    CEO APSECM briefed that the Investment Grade Energy Audit (IGEA) of AP Bhavan was conducted with the support of financial assistance of BEE,GoI. As per the energy audit conducted by third party energy auditing firm empanelled by BEE, it is estimated to save around 1.96 lakh units of electrical energy per annum worth of Rs. 39 lakhs with reduction of around 139 tons of CO2 emissions. The investment proposed for energy efficiency measures is around Rs.35 lakhs with return on investment in just 13 months. APSECM shall put all out efforts to complete the implementation of the project by end of March-2023”, said CEO APSECM.

    The measures that were proposed in AP bhavan are reduction in contracted demand , installation of LED Stage lighting , Star rated Air conditioners, use of induction cooking appliances in kitchen, installation of motion sensor and replacing conventional ceiling fans with Brush less direct current(BLDC) fans, Heat pumps etc.

    The Secretary BEE has appreciated APSECM for its proactive approach in implementing demonstration projects and suggested the State Designated Agency (SDA) to chalk out sector wise action plan to achieve the assigned target of 6.68 mtoe energy savings to Andhra Pradesh by 2030.
