Guntur:Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu today inaugurated the Mother and Child Care Centre at Guntur Government General Hospital (GGH). The alumni mobilised Rs 100 crore for the construction of the Kanuri– GMCANA (Guntur medical College Alumni of North America) Mother and Child Care Centre, while the government spent Rs 27 crore on infrastructure.
Speaking on the occasion, the Chief Minister praised the alumni who left the college four to five decades ago for
remembering the college where they studied and established the GMCANA organisation for extending support ever since with an aim that our society too should progress along with us. So far, many donors have made generous contributions to schools, hospitals, temples, choultries, and playgrounds.He said economic inequalities will reduce only when the poor reach an earning level. P 4 programme was launched to reduce gap between rich and poor. Inder P 4 programme 1.02 lakh people adopted 10.42 lakh beneficiaries.
The Chief Minister said it is a matter of pride that eight alumni of Guntur Medical College have received Padma Shri awards. “After Andhra Medical College, Guntur Medical College is the second oldest medical college in the state.
The Mother and Child Health Centre at GGH has been built across 2,69,245 square feet, with five floors and a total of 600 beds. The obstetrics department has 300 beds, paediatrics has 200 beds, and the remaining beds are in NICU, SICU, and PICU units.
The Chief Minister said that the Union Government’s Economic Survey 2025–26, presented in Parliament has clearly stated that Amaravati is emerging as a new greenfield city. He said Amaravati including Guntur will witness tremendous transformation. Guntur, Mangalagiri, and Vijayawada corporations will merge. A 182-kilometre Outer Ring Road will come up. There will be renewable energy and no pollution.
The Chief Minister said the Sanjeevani Project has been launched with the objective of using technology to provide quality healthcare to people. “The project is designed to digitise people’s health records. A pilot project has been completed in Kuppam. Soon, it will be expanded across the state and developed as a role model.
