Amaravati: A Green Capital in Harmony with Nature

Capital Development Rooted in the ‘Amaravati in Nature’ Vision

*Lush Avenues, Scenic Roads, Green Belts, and Buffer Zones for a Livable Environment
Green Strategy Focused on Native Species and Medicinal Plants*

Eco-Friendly Housing Projects Modeled After Singapore’s Bidadari Estate

CM Chandrababu Naidu Reviews Beautification and Green-Blue Master Plan for Amaravati

Amaravati, July 31: Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu has instructed officials to develop Amaravati into the country’s largest lung space city. He emphasized implementing green initiatives under the concept of “Amaravati in Nature.” On Thursday, the Chief Minister reviewed the Amaravati Beautification and Green-Blue Master Plan at the Secretariat.

He stressed the need to develop the main trunk roads, connecting roads, roads in LPS layouts, buffer zones, green zones, and major junctions in the capital in a way that fosters a pleasant and green atmosphere. Avenue plantations should be carried out along roads, he directed.

He further instructed that international-standard parks and green areas be developed in Amaravati. In addition to planting medicinal herbs, he emphasized transforming the capital region into a biodiversity zone. Indigenous tree species should be planted in green belts and buffer zones. He also insisted that the riverfront be developed into a serene and pleasant area.

A Blooming Green and Blue Capital

In addition to developing Amaravati as a green and blue city, the Chief Minister suggested planting trees that bloom in various seasons throughout the year, creating an ever-refreshing visual treat. He proposed a plan where residents and tourists would talk about the beauty of seasonal blossoms.

Officials were instructed to initiate plans to plant a variety of fruit-bearing and flowering plants across the capital. He also suggested studying other cities like Bengaluru and Singapore to incorporate their best practices in beautifying Amaravati.

Furthermore, the city should become a sanctuary for medicinal plants, rare species, and endangered flora. He suggested consulting with prominent yoga guru Baba Ramdev for guidance on cultivating medicinal herbs. He stressed the importance of promoting Kadiyam, a region known for its nurseries in Andhra Pradesh.

Efforts should be taken to grow indigenous plant species from all across India—from the Himalayas to Kanyakumari—in Amaravati. The Chief Minister emphasized that these green spaces must help control pollution and protect public health. He also advised involving local universities and students in the beautification efforts.

Amaravati should reflect its rich cultural and historical heritage while also featuring modern parks and amenities.

    A Serene Krishna Riverfront
The Chief Minister asserted that the capital city should offer high-quality and accessible housing. Housing projects in Amaravati should follow the model of Singapore’s Bidadari housing project, with tree-lined surroundings and parks creating a pleasant environment. He noted that Bidadari Estate was developed over 250 acres to house 10,000 residents.

He urged the development of various nature retreats within the city. Parks should be named after different countries and include flowering species native to those regions. Main roads should be named in harmony with nature.

He also stressed that the Kondaveeti Vagu, Palavagu, and canal systems in Amaravati be planned in aesthetically pleasing ways. Both banks of the Krishna River should be transformed into tranquil, scenic areas. Cycling tracks should be built along major roads.

ADC officials informed the Chief Minister that a reservoir at Shakamuru is being developed over 50 acres. He advised planting trees around the lake to create a relaxing green environment. Beautification should allow travelers to enjoy nature even while passing along the roads.

Officials further shared plans to develop six islands upstream of the Prakasam Barrage into scenic riverfront zones. The Chief Minister emphasized that all such developments must be environmentally sustainable.

He also stated that the Undavalli Hill area, centrally located in the city, should be planted with flowering trees so it looks like a beautiful floral forest from every direction.
