EESL, a joint venture of Public Sector Undertakings (PSUs) under Ministry of Power, GoI to explore the possibility of imparting global technologies for enhancing energy efficiency in various proactive states in particular Andhra Pradesh
In a significant development in the field of energy efficiency, the EESL (Energy Efficiency Services Limited), a joint venture of Public Sector Undertakings (PSUs) under Ministry of Power, Govt. of India, have taken a key decision and engaged A Chandra sekhara Reddy as senior advisor for Business Development and Government Affairs, who served in Andhra Pradesh power sector for three decades including 9 years in Chief Minister’s Office.
It is worth mentioning here that Chandra sekhara Reddy was instrumental in creating ‘Andhra Model’ of sorts in driving Centre’s ambitious agenda in conserving energy thereby providing economic benefits and also mitigating climate change effect. After putting in more than three decades of yeomen services to the state and society at large, Chandrasekhar Reddy had superannuated on May 31, 2023, as APSECM CEO.
In his new role A Chandra sekhara Reddy with headquarters in Hyderabad has been assigned business development activities for ongoing and for new business opportunities in South India States/Union Territories Governments/Departments of Andhra Pradesh, Karnataka, Kerala, Tamil Nadu, Telangana, Puducherry, Lakshadweep and Andaman & Nicobar Islands. He would interact with local, State departments, federal legislative bodies and government agencies to represent and protect the organization’s business plans and interests.
Notably, with the support of various key departments , Andhra Pradesh State Energy Conservation Mission(APSECM) have achieved estimated savings of around 5600 Million units of energy worth around Rs.4000 Crs through implementation of energy conservation and energy efficiency programs.
During his tenure as CEO APSECM, Andhra Pradesh has received National awards for 5 times that include most prestigious National Energy Conservation award-2022 from Hon’ble President of India for best performance in achieving energy savings. He has played a pivotal role in identifying more than 30 energy efficiency investment projects in the State of Andhra Pradesh worth Rs. 412 Crore.
While reacting on this, Chandra sekhara Reddy has profusely thanked Hon’ble Chief Minister of AP Y S JaganMohan Reddy, Energy Minister Peddireddi Ramachandra Reddy. He has also thanked Chief Secretary to AP, K S Jawahar Reddy and Special Chief Secretary Energy, K Vijayanand and other key departments like Panchayat Raj, Municipal Administration etc., for their unstinted support during his tenure in AP power sector.
He specifically thanked Chief Executive Officer of EESL Vishal Kapoor for giving him opportunity to work with EESL and assured to put all out efforts to meet the organization goals. “In fact it is my privilege to serve in such a great institution which is one of the best organizations in the field of energy efficiency and recognized at global level” he said.
Accordingly, with the support of energy department, being CEO SECM during his tenure, he has proposed interest subvention for small scale industries in several meetings in national and international platforms. As per the indications of Union Ministry of power led Bureau of Energy Efficiency (BEE), the Govt. of India is seriously examining in providing 5 percent interest subvention for Micro small and medium enterprises (MSMEs) for implementing energy efficiency projects.
During his tenure, SECM have continuously persuaded for the MSMEs in the country including Andhra Pradesh that are likely to get Rs.2500 Crs rebate for energy efficiency project implementation. He also played key role in penetration of energy conservation and energy efficiency programs in the State by proposing constitution of Energy Conservation cells.
EESL is contemplating to impart latest technologies in further enhancing energy efficiency for economic development and ecology, for which CEO EESL, Vishal Kapoor has already discussed with top level officers of various key States including top brass of AP Government. Apart from implementation of Energy Efficiency National Street lighting, Agricultural Pump sets & Gram Ujala program, EESL have distributed around 2.20 crore LED bulbs in Andhra Pradesh.
Till date, over 36.86 crore LED bulbs, 72.18 lakh LED Tube lights and 23.59 lakh Energy efficient fans distributed by EESL across the country. This has resulted in estimated energy savings of 48.42 billion kWh per year with avoided peak demand of 9,789 MW, GHG emission reduction of 39.30 million tonnes of CO2 per year and estimated annual monetary savings of INR 19,333 crore in consumer electricity bills and support entire country including the Telugu speaking states of Andhra Pradesh and Telangana.
