Minister Kandula Durgesh Restarts Ration Distribution in Undrajavaram — Emphasizes Welfare and Accountability
Undrajavaram, June 1, 2025:As part of the coalition government’s mission to ensure uninterrupted supply of essential commodities to the poor, Andhra Pradesh Minister for Tourism, Culture, and Cinematography Kandula Durgesh relaunched the public distribution system (PDS) through fair price shops in Satyavada village, Undrajavaram mandal.
Addressing the public, the minister emphasized that the coalition government is committed to providing welfare schemes to every eligible beneficiary. He highlighted that ration distribution is now resumed through PDS shops to relieve citizens from difficulties caused by previous delivery mechanisms. Durgesh personally distributed ration supplies to several beneficiaries at the event.
Key Announcements:
Ration shops will operate from the 1st to 15th of every month.
Home delivery of ration to senior citizens above 65 and persons with disabilities.
Full flexibility for updates and corrections in ration cards.
Statewide reopening of ration shop operations from June 1.
Immediate procurement plan for an additional 10,000 metric tonnes of paddy.
Durgesh said that the government identified and addressed issues in the previous door-delivery model, which limited access to only designated points. The elderly and differently-abled were forced to travel long distances to collect their rations. Under the leadership of Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu and Deputy CM Pawan Kalyan, the cabinet made a unanimous decision to revive fair price shops.
He condemned opposition misinformation about ration distribution and reaffirmed the government's resolve to ensure transparency and efficiency. Every household needing assistance will now be covered with improved delivery systems.
District Collector’s Update: East Godavari Joint Collector S. Chinna Ramudu informed that 870 fair price shops across the district will serve 5.64 lakh ration card holders. Essential supplies will be distributed from June 1 to 15 every month.
Ensuring Proper Ration Flow: Minister Durgesh warned dealers against diverting rice for private sales and assured strict action against violations. He also addressed dealers' logistical concerns and directed immediate steps to ease stock point operations in Tanuku for Undrajavaram and Peravali mandals.
Agricultural Procurement Boost: Highlighting Nidamavolu’s agricultural strength, Durgesh said that the constituency alone was allocated 1.20 lakh metric tonnes of the district’s 3.40 lakh metric tonne paddy quota. Recognizing excess yield, the minister stated that discussions with Civil Supplies Minister Nara Manohar led to approval for procuring 10,000 additional metric tonnes of paddy.
He assured farmers of:Timely procurement and payment within 48 hours (and sometimes 6 hours).Government purchase of paddy through millers if needed.
Bank guarantee policy in a 1:2 ratio for millers.
Commitment to Constituency Development: Minister Durgesh reiterated that despite his statewide responsibilities, he remains fully committed to addressing issues in Nidamavolu constituency. He shared plans for a special development roadmap, including:
₹11 crore through NREGS and another ₹20 crore already sanctioned.
Total ₹31 crore being used for CC roads, R&B roads, and infrastructure development.
Efforts to secure central funding for further growth.
