Vijayawada, September 3: Following the Memorandum of Agreement (MoA) between Energy Efficiency Services Limited (EESL) a JV. Of Central PSUs.Ministry of Power. GOI and the Andhra Pradesh government’s Housing Department for energy efficiency measures in the country's largest housing project, EESL will discuss the plan for the execution of the energy-efficient prestigious project with AP Govt,,with the aim of establishing it as a National Model.
Aa part of efforts to boost energy efficiency (EE) in housing and building sectors, EESL has joined hands with the Andhra Pradesh government for the landmark “NavaratnaluPedalankriillu” housing project under PMAY. This MoA marks a crucial stride towards sustainable housing with enhanced EE. The EESL officials will soon visit the state to assess and plan the project’s execution.
AP State Housing Corporation Limited (APSHCL) is leading the charge to facilitate high-quality, cost-effective energy-efficient appliances to the housing scheme beneficiaries sourced through EESL. This initiative empowers them to lower electricity bills, improve living standers , and protect the environment. Those choosing these appliances voluntarily (not mandatory) will enjoy a package comprising 4 LED bulbs, 2 LED tube lights, and 2 Energy Efficiency fans at prices below market rates.
This strategic step is expected to result in substantial energy savings, estimated at 734 units per house annually, and a total of 1145 million units yearly across 15.6 lakh houses in phase-1 of the scheme. Energy-efficient BLDC fans are set to reduce consumption by 50%, LED tube lights by 60%, and LED bulbs by an impressive 90% compared to conventional appliances.
Speaking during a webinar with EESL CEO Vishal Kapoor and Sr. Executives of EESL Animesh Mishra ,Savitri Singh. Nitin bhutt and Pavan, the Special Chief Secretary of AP Housing Department, Ajay Jain, articulated the government’s unwavering commitment to providing top-notch power infrastructure to YSR Jagananna colonies. He emphasized that ensuring access to modern energy is a pivotal step in improving living standards and expanding economic opportunities for the beneficiaries.
Along with MD.of AP HDCL,,Lakshmi Shaw and ED. Siva Kumar ..Shri.Ajay Jain further highlighted the exemplary progress of the "NavaratnaluPedalankriillu” program, with nearly 93% of the sanctioned 21.25 lakh houses already grounded. The government’s substantial investment of approximately Rs. 7,630 crore in the current fiscal year underscores its dedication to providing quality housing and social infrastructure.
CEO,EESL emphasized the Union Government’s strong commitment to promoting energy efficiency in housing and building sectors. Key initiatives like energy conservation building codes highlight the government's proactive approach. The newly introduced Eco Niwas Samhita 2021, of Bureau of Energy Efficiency. An Energy Conservation Building Code for Residential Buildings, sets rigorous energy performance standards.
EESL officials explained about the initiatives range from providing energy-efficient appliances through partnerships with organizations like APSHCL to retrofitting existing buildings with energy-efficient measures will help to a larger nextent for Promoting energy efficiency in India’s Housing and Building sector..
India is committed to reducing energy intensity by 33-35% by 2030 compared to 2005 levels under the Paris Agreement, necessitating robust energy efficiency measures, particularly in the housing and building sector, which accounts for approximately 30% of the nation's total electricity consumption, he said,,,
The future of energy efficiency in India’s housing and building sector depends on urbanization, industrialization, income growth, policy support, technology innovation, and consumer awareness. The India Energy Outlook 2021 report by the International Energy Agency (IEA) predicts a need for over 50 billion square meters of residential floor space in the next two decades due to urbanization.
Enhancing energy efficiency in buildings holds the potential to mitigate air pollution, reduce greenhouse gas emissions, and improve the quality of life for occupants. Energy-efficient buildings can achieve energy savings of up to 30% for energy and 50% for water. Beyond the tangible benefits, green buildings enhance air quality, provide excellent daylighting, and contribute to the health and well-being of occupants.
