Vishal Kapoor CEO..EESL invites proactive states like Andhra Pradesh to collaborate in propelling the Nation towards energy efficiency and a cleaner, sustainable future
Vijayawada, August 20: Vishal Kapoor CEO ..Energy Efficiency Services Limited (EESL), a joint venture of National Public Sector Undertakings of Ministry of Power (MOP) , GOI, has urged proactive States to embrace energy efficiency that harmonizes with India’s net-zero commitment. This is exemplified through its Super-Efficient Appliances Program which champions energy efficiency and accelerates the nation’s net-zero trajectory towards achieving net-zero emissions.
The EESL has unveiled its vision 2030 and reaffirmed its dedication to cleaner energy through updated Nationally Determined Contributions (NDCs). EESL’s shift to “Enabling Net-Zero” aligns with India’s goal to secure 50 percent non-fossil electricity by 2030 and reduce emissions. .EESL’s role becomes key in advancing these targets.
At the heart of the Super-Efficient Appliances Program lies a commitment to champion energy efficiency, and this commitment translates into tangible benefits for every household.
This program’s success reverberates in quantifiable achievements. Under the UJALA (Unnat Jyothi Affordable LEDs for All) program, EESL has distributed a staggering 375 million LED bulbs, leading to a reduction of 40.2 billion units of annual electricity consumption—a testament to its far-reaching impact. Additionally, EESL equipped 2.3 million households with energy-efficient ceiling fans and illuminated 6 million lives through solar study lamps.
Substituting LED bulbs for incandescent ones slashes electricity bills for households. This efficient lighting not only brightens homes but also eases financial strains, freeing resources for other necessities.
Energy-efficient ceiling fans magnify the program’s impact, consuming less electricity for optimal cooling. Families nationwide enjoy cooler environments without the concern of high energy bills. Likewise, energy-efficient air conditioners provide comfort without excessive costs, adhering to stringent efficiency standards.
The Super-Efficient Appliances Program’s benefits extend beyond individuals. As households embrace energy-efficient appliances, overall energy demand decreases, conserving resources and reducing the carbon footprint in line with India’s climate goals. The program also fuels India’s economy by cultivating a market for energy-efficient appliances, driving employment, innovation, and economic growth, contributing to national prosperity.
CESL (Convergence Energy Services Limited), a subsidiary of EESL, has successfully implemented the Gram Ujala scheme in recent times. As part of this initiative, 7 Watt and 12 Watt LED bulbs with a 3-year warranty have been provided to rural households at the cost of Rs 10 each, in exchange for old incandescent lamps.
During the initial phase of the Gram Ujala program, a total of 10 million (1 crore) LED bulbs were distributed across villages in various states including Uttar Pradesh, Bihar, Andhra Pradesh, Telangana, and Karnataka.
