Vijayawada, 18-06-2023: In a testament to the Andhra Pradesh government’s credibility and proven track record in the area of energy efficiency , the Energy Efficiency Services Limited (EESL), a Joint Venture of PSUs (Public sector Undertaking) under Ministry of Power (MoP), Govt. of India is keen on supporting Andhra Pradesh in enhancing energy efficiency in Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs) that will help in ensuring economic stability, over all well being and fostering a sustainable future. EESL is exploring possibility to impart global technologies in AP MSMEs apart from various other States in the country
During a high level meeting with EESL, State Panchayat Raj, Rural development, Municipal administration & urban development, Industries department, the Chief Secretary to AP Govt, K S Jawahar Reddy said that the State government is strongly committed to implement energy efficiency programs with utmost dedication. This initiative is poised to contribute to the realization of the primary objective of Chief Minister Y S JaganMohan Reddy which is to continue to ensure 24x7 reliable and quality power supply particularly for industries and domestic sector. The AP power utilities have met energy demand of 263 Million units in the State on 17th June-2023 which is all time record high day demand so far. In this scenario, promotion of energy efficiency and renewable energy plays a major role to meet the power requirements of the people.
Several prominent industrialists across the globe are choosing Andhra Pradesh because of the transparent industrial policies of the state government with strong determination of Chief Minister. The govt. has focused on developing infrastructure and to promote industrialization and support to MSMEs to generate more employment opportunities, CS said.
Recognizing that the growth and development of entrepreneurship are vital for economic progress, the chief secretary underscored the crucial role played by MSMEs as the driving force behind the state and national economies. The Chief Secretary mentioned that factoring the hardships faced by the MSMEs during COVID-19 pandemic, the AP Govt. has come up with a Rs.1110 Crore “ReSTART” Policy boost. This was to provide great relief at a time when the economy has come to a standstill, severely affecting the livelihoods of thousands dependent on MSME sector during COVID period.
Responding to comment of chief secretary of AP, the Chief executive officer of EESL, VIshal Kapoor expressed the organization’s unwavering readiness to support Andhra Pradesh including all other States in any area or project related to energy efficiency which contributes 50 percent in addressing climate change and also helps for enhancement of economy. The resounding success of UJALA (Unnat Jyothi affordable LEDs for all) scheme which is worlds one of the biggest LED program launched by Hon’ble Prime Minister of India Sri Narendra Modi, stands as a testament to EESL’s commitment, with over 36.86 Crore LED bulbs distributed Nationwide with savings of around 47,880 Million kWh per annum. 9,586 MW of peak demand has been avoided, along with 3.87 crore tonnes of reduction in CO2 emissions.
CEO EESL thanked State Govt. for effective implementation of energy efficiency programs and promotion of renewable energy generation in the State including bold steps of procuring 7000 MW solar power from SECI and around 33 GW Pumped hydro storage capacity, which helps for quality and cost effective power. He also thanked AP Chief Secretary K S Jawahar Reddy, Special chief secretaries of Finance, PR&RD, energy, Industries departments, SS Rawat, B Rajsekhar, K Vijayanand and Commissioners of PR & RD, MA &UD, Industries dept, A Surya Kumari, Commissioner, P Koteswara Rao, Praveen kumar for their co-operation and support to EESL. The EESL CEO thanked Panchayat raj dept for their continuous deliberations with EESL and monitoring the LED Street lighting project which is expected to save financial savings of INR 170 Cr per annum, monetary energy savings of 242.8 MU per annum with reduction of CO2 by 0.2 Million tonnes.
EESL will explore the possibility of seeking support of SIDBI (small industrial development bank of India) in supporting the economic viability of MSMEs in Andhra Pradesh through implementation of energy efficiency programs. EESL which is providing energy efficiency technologies and services under the EESL-UNIDO-GEF project for catering the needs of industrial clusters including textiles, chemical & Pharmaceuticals, forging and foundry, paper manufacturing, rice mills, metal processing etc. These technologies help MSMEs to enhance productivity, achieve monetary savings in energy bills, access competitive pricing, stream line project management and implement comprehensive energy efficiency improvements. EESL will fully support for strengthening of the energy efficiency street lighting project acknowledging its profound impact on improving quality of life for people of Andhra Pradesh.
