Vijayawada, October 1: Andhra Pradesh's Pedalandariki Illu program, part of the 'Navaratnalu' scheme, has received international acclaim for its steadfast dedication to the noble cause of energy efficiency, collaborating with the Energy Efficiency Services Ltd (EESL- a joint venture of Public Sector Undertakings, Ministry of Power, GoI), to facilitate beneficiaries with energy- efficient star rated appliances, promising improved living standards and substantial energy resource conservation.
Dr. Jonathan Demenge, the Energy Head of Co. Operation and Counsellor at the Embassy of Switzerland Government in Delhi, in a communication to the advisor of EESL for business development and government affairs in South India and Union Territories, has expressed profound admiration for the EESL's and AP Govt’s impressive implementation of energy efficiency project in Housing Schemes. He emphasized the urgent need to raise public awareness about energy conservation and Green House Gas Emissions reduction, underlining the substantial impact and such initiatives could make in addressing climate change effectively, Dr. Demenge's praise underscored the global significance of AP's initiative, positioning it as a potential model for energy efficiency programs.
He also commended Special Chief Secretary for Housing, Govt of AP, Ajay Jain & CEO, EESL Vishal Kapoor for their efforts with the Support of Union and State Governments in entering in to agreement during G20 Global Summit in GOA to introduce Energy Efficiency measures in Housing Schemes, expressing hope that others would follow suit, creating energy-efficient housing schemes beneficial for both the general public and the Environment.
The Swiss Agency for Development and Cooperation (SDC) is actively addressing global warming and climate change, focusing on key sectors like housing and industry. Emphasizing energy efficiency as a core solution, accounting for 40% of the efforts, SDC is promoting innovative solutions such as Lime Stone Calcined Clay Cement (LC3) in the cement industry, a breakthrough promising substantial reductions in global greenhouse gas emissions. Dr. Jonathan praised SDC's proactive approach in combating climate change.
When briefed by the EESL, Sr. Advisor A. Chandrasekhar Reddy - Business Development & Government Affairs (South India/ Union Territories about the Jonathan Demenge’s comments, Special Chief Secretary for Housing, Govt. of AP, Ajay Jain, reaffirmed the government's steadfast dedication to uplifting the underprivileged through the Pedalandariki Illu (In Jagananna Colonies) housing initiative under the GoI Scheme of PMAY. He stressed the administration's resolute commitment to ensuring that the advantages of energy efficiency reach every beneficiary, emphasizing the program's dual impact in both enhancing lives and conserving the environment. He expressed his gratitude towards Chief Minister Y.S. Jagan Mohan Reddy & Minister for Housing, Jogi Ramesh for their unwavering support and determination, which he credited as instrumental in ensuring the success of the housing scheme.
Ajay Jain also thanked DG. BEE Abhay Bakre and CEO EESL Vishal Kapoor for their support and said that AP Housing Department, in partnership with EESL, would facilitate each beneficiary with four LED bulbs, two LED tube lights, and two Energy Efficiency fans. These energy-efficient appliances are estimated to save 734 units of energy per house annually, resulting in a substantial Rs. 352 crore annual saving across the 15.6 lakh houses in phase-1. EESL highlights significant energy reductions: 50% less energy with energy-efficient fans, 60% with LED tube lights, and an impressive 90% with LED bulbs compared to conventional devices.
The Pedalandariki Illu initiative not only signifies a significant leap toward housing for all but also exemplifies Andhra Pradesh's commitment to a sustainable, energy-efficient future. As the state leads the way, it serves as a beacon of inspiration for similar endeavours globally, showcasing the impact of thoughtful, collaborative initiatives in shaping a better tomorrow for all. In addition to the energy savings, the Pedalandariki Illu program is also expected to create jobs & boost the local economy. The government has estimated that the program will create over 10 lakh jobs in the construction and allied sectors.
MD, AP Housing Corporation Ltd said that the Pedalandariki Illu program is a shining example of how to use innovative solutions to address social and environmental challenges. It is a model that other states can emulate to provide affordable, sustainable housing to the poor people and improve energy efficiency.
