Chief Minister Y.S. Jagan Mohan Reddy has directed the health officials to fill all the vacancies in the government hospitals in the state and provide good infrastructure with sufficient medicines at these facilities.

Chairing a high-level review meeting with health minister Vidadala Rajini and senior officials at his camp office here on Monday, the Chief Minister called for regular audit of vacancies of staff members in all the government hospitals from village clinics to medical college hospitals.

"List the number of doctors, nurses and other health staff getting retired soon by using artificial intelligence (AI) and take requisite measures to fill up such vacancies immediately," the CM said.

The health officials briefed the CM on the family doctor programme. They said 20,25,903 people benefited from the programme from April 6 to 28. The programme is being implemented in 10,032 villages.

"As many as 4,43,232 persons have been identified to be having both diabetes and hypertension. This apart, some 4,86,903 persons are suffering from hypertension and 2,70,818 from diabetes. Some 4,649 persons are suffering from oral cancer, 1,761 from breast cancer and 7,042 from cervical cancer," the officials said.

They have been asked to visit the nearby hospitals to take medical and healthcare.

On family doctor programme, the CM asked the officials to give prior information about the visit of doctors to the villages notified, through Asha workers and ANMs. There is also a need to conduct eye tests on a regular basis and provide power glasses to the people having vision problems, the CM said.

On preventive measures for anemia and malnutrition, Jagan Mohan Reddy asked the officials to initiate steps through village clinics and provide such people as also pregnant women with nutritious diet.

The Chief Minister called for preparation of a special curriculum to provide training to the community health officers to discharge their duties efficiently and also laid emphasis on training them at teaching hospitals on basic oral healthcare, ENT problems, providing CPR  and other issues.

He stressed the need to train them to provide immediate treatment in cases of people suffering snake bites.

On reviewing the progress of the upcoming government medical colleges, hospitals, area hospitals and community health centres, the officials informed the CM that an additional quota of 2,100 MBBS seats would be available in the state in addition to the existing 2,185 medical seats
