GIZ (Germany) to showcase AP in energy efficiency front

APSECM…A torchbearer for energy efficiency”—said Prabhat, Senior Executive, PwC

APSECM going to propose Energy Efficiency Policy of the State

The policy aims to encourage and promote the large-scale deployment of Energy Conservation (EC) and Energy Efficiency (EE) measures in the state

AP Energy Efficiency Policy expected to save around 16875 million units (25.6 percent) worth of Rs.11779 Crore and reduce 14.34 million tons of carbon emissions.

APSECM has made relentless efforts in facilitating key departments in saving 5600 MU worth Rs.3800 Cr for last few years.

State has enormous scope to save energy which shows positive impact on State economy

AP is the only State that has issued a G.O for setting EC cells in government departments

APSECM exploring possibility to avail grants from GoI to the tune of Rs.50 Cr to Rs.100 Cr

The energy efficiency measures taken up by the Y S Jagan Mohan Reddy government in Andhra Pradesh help reduce carbon emissions thereby aiding India’s climate goals is attracting global players and international agencies.

In a shot in the arm to the efforts being put in by AP State Energy Conservation Mission (APSECM), State Designated Agency (SDA) under Energy department,  that oversees energy efficiency measures in Andhra Pradesh, German Corporation for International Cooperation (GIZ), had come forward to map these measures.

The activity taken up by GIZ - “Energy Efficiency in States-Mapping and way forward” will help understand and collate the policies of Andhra Pradesh apart from other key states pertaining to energy efficiency, especially in the industrial sector.

GIZ’s activity comes at a time when APSECM is going to propose "Andhra Pradesh Energy Conservation and Energy Efficiency Policy" to state government that is expected to save around 16875 million units (25.6 percent) worth of Rs.11779 Crore out of total annual energy demand of around 65830 Million units.  This is expected to reduce carbon emissions to the tune of around 14.34 million tons of carbon emissions.

GIZ entrusted - “Energy Efficiency in States-Mapping and way forward” to world’s leading consultant M/s. Price water coopers (PwC). It’s worth mentioning here that APSECM recently received the prestigious award for energy efficiency from the President of India for the best practices in energy efficiency.

The outcome of the mapping study would help in understanding the need for State in promoting Energy Efficiency and support in development/replication of suitable policy interventions in other States. This study is a part of recently commissioned a program “Energy Efficiency in industry and Data” by BEE and GIZ which aims to promote energy efficiency in MSME industries (Steel & Paper) and conduct knowledge sharing activities for relevant stakeholders.

While thanking BEE and GIZ Germany for their gesture to conduct mapping study of Andhra Pradesh, special chief secretary energy K Vijayanand said that the State government is very keen to encourage energy conservation and energy efficiency in a big way to reduce energy intensity on economy along with environmental impact and meet increasing demand for energy to a certain extent in State which ultimately helps to meet the objective of Chief Minister Y S Jagan Mohan Reddy and Energy Minister Peddreddi Ramachandra Reddy to provide 24x7 quality and reliable power supply to electricity consumers .

Mr.Prabhat senior executive of PwC who has been deputed by GIZ Germany through BEE, GoI for conducting the mapping study has visited Vijayawada and extensively gone through the energy efficiency activities and achievements of State. “While studying energy efficiency programs of AP, we are extremely happy with the major initiatives of APSECM like EC cells, IoT, EC policy, Standalone model, awareness programs etc. One can straight away say that APSECM is a torchbearer for energy efficiency and an inspiration and motivation for others. SECM’s efforts would have major impact on energy efficiency in State as well as country in near future” said Prabhat, senior executive of PwC.

APSECM has made relentless efforts in facilitating key departments in saving 5600 Million Units worth Rs.3800 Cr for last few years. Recognizing the best practices of APSECM, the Union Power Minister R K Singh has written a letter to all the States to follow the AP model of standalone SDA.

The State Govt. issued G.O.Rt.89 Dt.05-11-2020 for constituting Energy Conservation (EC) cells in all the Govt depts. and AP is the only State that has issued a G.O for setting EC cells in government departments for achieving the desired targets of energy efficiency. APSECM is one of the best SDA in implementation of Perform, Achieve & Trade (PAT) Scheme that saved around 3430 MU worth Rs.2394 Cr through PAT alone in Industrial sector out of the total savings of 5600 MU. APSECM is also exploring the possibility to avail grants from GoI under demonstration of energy efficiency project (DEEP) and “Promoting Market Transformation for Energy Efficiency in Micro, Small & Medium Enterprises (MSME)" to the tune of around Rs.50 to Rs.100 Crore.

APSECM is taking steps to involve all stakeholders, including government departments, public and private organizations and electricity consumers and motivate them to contribute towards energy conservation and adopt energy efficiency life style. The State has enormous scope to save energy which shows positive impact on State economy, boost economic activity and benefit every household in the State by reducing energy consumption and electricity bills apart from environment benefits.

The Energy Conservation and Energy Efficiency Policy aims to encourage and promote the large-scale deployment of Energy Conservation (EC) and Energy Efficiency (EE) measures in the state. This helps boost the State economy and strengthen energy security through various Central and State Government initiatives. The policy helps to bring a unified platform and an integrated approach to address energy efficiency and energy conservation to all the stakeholders. The policy addresses Domestic, Industry & Commercial, Agriculture, Municipality and Transport sectors to implement and enforce Energy Efficiency and Energy Conservation measures effectively in the state.

The policy ensures sustainability through profitable and efficient use of resources to provide sustainable energy supply to all sectors of the State. It is envisioned to create an effective eco-system for adoption of EE and EC practices towards a better sustainable society and develop Andhra Pradesh as the most energy-efficient and less energy-intensive state.
