EV Revolution…helps enhance Energy Security, reduce Carbon Emissions.
As part of the objective to bring Electric Vehicles (EVs) revolution in the State which represents one of the most promising pathways to enhance energy security, reduce carbon emissions and improve air quality in the environment, the New and Renewable Energy Development Corporation of Andhra Pradesh Limited (NREDCAP) has facilitated to set up 250 electric charging stations in the State and working out to set up another 100 charging stations in the coming year.
As part of the initiative, an electric charging station near Sri Durga Malleswara Swamy temple in Vijayawada is inaugurated by Minister for Energy, Environment &Forests, Science & Technology, Mines & Geology, Dr.Peddireddi Ramachandra Reddy as Chief Guest of the event on Thursday participated by NREDCAP Chairman, Sri. K K Raju, Special Chief Secretary, Energy, Sri. K Vijayanand,IAS, NREDCAP MD Sri S.Ramana Reddy,IRPS and CMD APCPDCL,Sri J Padma Janardhana Reddy. The Minister has also launched the Renewable Energy Resources Centre (RERC) which was set up by NREDCAP in co-ordination with Andhra Pradesh State Council of Science & Technology (APCOST).
Speaking on this occasion, the energy minister appealed the general public to go for Electric Vehicles (EVs) for economic benefit as well as environmental protection. He appreciated NREDCAP for development of charging infrastructures across AP to develop sustainable transportation to help lower middle-class and middle-class people on whom the charges of petrol and diesel are being a burden. The setting up of electric vehicle charging stations also aligns with the National goal to achieve Net Zero Emissions by 2070 where India has set a goal to reach the next level for energy independence through the use of Bio-fuels, Solar Energy, and Electric Vehicles.
The State Government is playing an active role in the formulation of policies encouraging the usage of electric vehicles and promotion of E-Mobility activities like distribution of 1,00,000 E-Vehicles to Govt. Employees on EMI basis and giving incentives like Road Tax exemption and Registration Fee exemption.
The State Government has set a goal to phase out ICE Vehicles by 2030 with objective to build a robust public "fueling" network of charging stations that can drive the adoption of E-Mobility. For this, the Govt. has planned to develop charging infrastructures within a grid of 3KM X 3KM in city limits and along 25 KMs intervals on both sides of National Highways.
He congratulated NREDCAP for taking initiative of setting up Renewable Energy Resource Centre (RERC) in co-ordination with APCOST to display and demonstrate around 30 Renewable Energy (RE) Gadgets at the center to facilitate the visiting students about Renewable Energy Technologies and Energy Conservative Concepts.
The energy minister wished Andhra Pradesh would become a model state for E-Mobility and a Knowledge hub for renewable energy under the leadership of Chief Minister Sri Y S Jagan Mohan Reddy.
NREDCAP Chairman, Sri. K K Raju said that one liter of petrol will emit 2.3 Kg of CO2 and Particulate Matter (PM) 2.5, which are harmful to human health and the environment. “Switching from Internal Combustion Engine (ICE) vehicles to Electric Vehicles can help in reduction of these hazardous emissions. Considering this fact, electric vehicles are advantageous than conventional vehicles. The E- vehicles protect the local environment and reduce carbon footprint”.
Special Chief Secretary, Energy Department, Sri. K Vijayanand IAS said, EV battery charging, maintenance and operation costs are low and safer to drive across the miles. With very little or no maintenance and higher operational efficiency, lower life cycle operational cost compared to conventional vehicles, we are moving into a future mobility that shall revolutionize the automotive sector”.
Officials said that the Government of India has selected Tirupati for making it as Net Zero Emissions Tourist Place. In view of this, NREDCAP has retrofitted three-wheeler autos into electric vehicles and provide battery swapping facility in Tirupati town on demonstration basis which will greatly benefit the public. Till now around 100 electric buses are running in Tirupati town and approximately 40,000 electric vehicles have been registered in Andhra Pradesh.
NREDCAP MD Sri S.Ramana Reddy,IRPS explained to Hon’ble Minister that the Renewable Energy Resource Centre (RERC) helps to promote learning opportunities for students of all ages. The students can learn from the basics of what "renewable energy" means, all the way up to learning the intricacies of how the technologies work. The students will get exposed to various gadgets of Renewable Energy and its functionality on real time basis. Students or general public will gain hands on experience on some of the displayed gadgets in this center, he said.
Member Secretary Smt. Dr.Y.Aparna, officials from NREDCAP and students have also participated in the program.
