He stressed that every individual, family, community, and all stakeholders hold a crucial role in combating the global challenges posed by climate change, transcending the prevailing notion that climate action is solely the purview of governments. Mission LiFE fosters a spirit encapsulated in the P3 model: Pro Planet People, rooted in a lifestyle for the planet, by the planet, and of the planet.
CIC expressed confidence that Visakhapatnam metropolitan city, considered to be one of the best cities in the country apart from major pilgrimage centers in the world like Tirupati, will play a pivotal role in addressing Climate Change through prestigious programs of the Govt of India like Mission Life. CIC complimented Telugu states for focusing on energy efficiency.
Drawing from India's rich heritage, Heeralal Samaria shed light on the enduring practices of 'Reduce, Reuse, and Recycle,' seamlessly woven into the country's cultural tapestry for centuries. He underscored the imperative for global support, acknowledging the triple planetary emergency of climate change, biodiversity loss, and pollution, all rooted in unsustainable consumption. Expressing encouragement at India's commitment to environmentally sound policies, Samaria announced his support for the #LiFE initiative.
He urged individuals and communities to recognize their role in the ongoing environmental crisis, citing the mission's mantra: 'Lifestyle for Environment.' This powerful call to action connects people to the collective responsibility of protecting the Earth through meaningful changes in everyday life. As the CICI articulated the mission's threefold approach—Change in Demand, Change in Supply, and Change in Policy—the core vision of Mission LiFE materialized. It seeks to mobilize at least one billion Indians and global citizens between 2022 and 2028, fostering environmentally-friendly practices in 80% of all villages and urban local bodies within India by 2028. Transitioning from a throwaway culture to a circular economy, Mission LiFE aims to curb environmental degradation and climate change impacts. Samaria highlighted India's track record in implementing large-scale behavioral change programs, citing initiatives like the Swachh Bharat Mission and the Ujjwala Scheme.
Chief Information Commissioner (CIC) has commended the Bureau of Energy Efficiency (BEE) for its dedicated efforts in propagating Mission LiFE throughout the nation, recognizing the crucial role it plays in fostering environmental awareness. The CIC appreciates BEE's initiatives to amplify the impact of Mission LiFE across diverse communities. Mission LiFE's significance extends beyond national boundaries, aligning with the United Nations' Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). By addressing SDGs related to sustainable cities and communities, responsible production and consumption, climate action, life on land, and life under water, the initiative emerges as a catalyst for global change. In the face of mounting environmental challenges, Mission LiFE stands as a beacon, beckoning individuals and nations alike to join hands in a collective journey towards a more sustainable, harmonious coexistence with the planet.
