Mass Yoga Performance with 5 Lakh Participants to Set a World Record
CM Chandrababu Naidu conducts high-level review on Yoga Day arrangements at RK Beach
Ground-level review of Yoga Day preparations by the Chief Minister
*Visakhapatnam, June 16, 2025:* Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu has directed officials to ensure the successful conduct of the International Yoga Day celebrations scheduled to be held in Visakhapatnam on June 21.
The CM, who arrived in Visakhapatnam on Monday to oversee preparations for the event to be attended by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, conducted a ground-level inspection from RK Beach to GITAM University near Rushikonda. He also reviewed the arrangements at the Andhra University campus grounds. He held a high-level meeting with public representatives and officials, gathering updates on the preparations and taking their suggestions to ensure the event’s success. He also gave directions to plan the program in a manner that could potentially set a world record.
“Let’s declare a Yoga Day movement”*
During the high-level review meeting, CM Chandrababu Naidu said, “Let’s declare International Yoga Day as a people’s movement. Yoga should become an integral part of our daily lives. We are launching a historic celebration from Visakhapatnam. It is estimated that about 2 crore people across the state will participate in Yoga Day. Visakhapatnam is set to host a mass yoga event with 5 lakh participants. The stretch from RK Beach to Bhogapuram offers an ideal location for this unique event—there’s no comparable setting anywhere else in the country. We are aiming for a Guinness World Record through this event. All arrangements are being made to avoid any inconvenience.”
*Plan to make yoga a part of everyone’s life*
The Chief Minister revealed that the Indian Navy is also set to display 11 ships near RK Beach as part of the Yoga Day celebrations. He instructed officials that only those who have practiced yoga should participate in the event and emphasised turning yoga into a public movement. “In line with the promise made to the Prime Minister, we’ve designed a detailed plan for conducting the event. For everyone to stay healthy, practicing yoga is essential. All of us must work together to make this event a success. Staff from 607 ward secretariats should coordinate the arrangements. We have planned for 326 compartments where yoga asanas will be performed. Ensure that parking and toilet facilities are sufficient. Participants should be given all necessary information in advance. From arrival to departure, every aspect must be carefully managed.”
*CM recalls 1987 Mahanadu*
During the review meeting, CM Chandrababu recalled the 1987 Mahanadu as an interesting parallel. He reminisced about how Kala Venkata Rao was present at the time and how they conducted the Mahanadu successfully despite inadequate facilities. He noted that even back then, they estimated in advance the number of people and the distance they would walk. “We instructed all participants to wear yellow shirts. Those who didn’t bring one had their shirts dipped in yellow water drums and handed back to them,” he recalled. He added that with today’s advanced technology, events of this scale can be conducted even more efficiently.
