Chief Minister Y.S. Jagan Mohan Reddy has said his government believes in Mahatma Gandhi's governance model.
"Gram Swaraj has been materialised in AP through policy interventions. The Mahatma dreamt of effective decentralisation of power to take it to the village level, which is what we have done in the past four years," the CM said.
Jagan Mohan Reddy paid floral tributes to Mahatma Gandhi and Lal Bahadur Shastri at the CM’s Camp Office in Tadepalli on Monday.
He later said, "Mahatma Gandhi's words are our ideal. We have the welfare of all the people of the state as our goal. Through the secretariat system percolating down to the Gram and Ward level, we have realised the Mahatma’s goal of Gram Swaraj. We will follow the path shown by him
He also remembered Lal Bahadur Shastri's 'Jai Jawan, Jai Kisan' slogan. "His services to the nation as a freedom fighter and former prime minister are memorable. His call of 'Jai Jawan, Jai Kisan' continues to resonate to this day," Jagan Mohan Reddy wrote, adding that Shastri's "revolutionary reforms" were great.
At a separate programme, the YSRC leaders paid floral tributes to Mahatma Gandhi and Lal Bahadur Shastri during their birth anniversary celebrations in the central party office. Adviser to government (public affairs) Sajjala Ramakrishna claimed that the administration of Jagan Mohan Reddy in AP was running on the path shown by Mahatma Gandhi.
Some 98 lakh certificates and services have been received through the Jagananna Suraksha programme at doorsteps. Today, the health protection campaign Jagananna Aarogya Suraksha is going on widely across the state. All this is possible because of the village and ward secretariats rooted at the village and town level; and the village secretariat system is like a hub for this whole process."
Social welfare minister Merugu Nagarjuna said Mahatma Gandhi and Lal Bahadur Shastri were great leaders. Water resources minister Ambati Rambabu said Mahatma Gandhi fought for many years to end the British rule from India.
Nandigam Suresh MP said, "Jagan Mohan Reddy is bringing the system of village secretariats as desired by Mahatma Gandhi and providing better administration to the people."
Former minister Siddharaghav Rao said the main reason why Andhra Pradesh was ahead of all the states in India in terms of welfare and development was because Jagan Mohan Reddy followed the path shown by Mahatma Gandhi.
