APGENCO & APTRANSCO team have handled efficiently the rarest of the rare event
The Managing Director of Andhra Pradesh Power Generation Corporation (APGENCO) K V N Chakradhar Babu and team have handled efficiently the rarest of the rare event where 6(Six) thermal plant units of Vijayawada Thermal Power Station (VTPS) were flashed and Synchronized in a record time of around 4 hours and got the units quickly back into generation. The Six VTPS units of APGENCO got tripped because of a bus fault and due to failure of station supply unit where around 1000MW generation is suddenly lost during the evening peak period. MD APGENCO along with team of APTRANSCO and team of APGENCO under the guidance of special chief secretary energy K Vijayanand have inspected the VTPS plant till midnight 2.30 AM and handled this event without much load relief and all the emergency units like hospitals railways etc had no interruptions anywhere in the state.
During the review of thermal power generation with APGENCO team, the MD APGENCO disclosed that APGENCO is aiming at sustainability of 100 per cent output from the thermal generation units to meet the growing energy demand. Due to rising temperatures, the daily energy demand has touched highest record peak demand ever in the last 8 years at 247 MU on May 16, 2023, where as the energy demand was 195 MU on the same day in last year. The present day energy demand is more than around 20 per cent when compared to demand of same day in last year. APGENCO has registered a record level of electricity generation in the state with 105.620 million units (5,137 MW) of electricity on May 11, 2023.
“APGENCO is taking stringent steps to prevent any problems in power generation including supply of coal from coal fields and also ensuring efficient generation of power at better heat rate and optimization of fuel resources. Efforts are being made to adopt the best practices, improve operational efficiency and reduce emissions. APGENCO will strive hard to be the best organization at national level in power generation and maintaining highest Plant Load Factor (PLF).
APGENCO is generating power on full swing. Even if there are any technical issues, the same will be rectified as soon as possible to ensure best generation.
The Unit-3 of APGENCO is putting efforts to make Dr. NTTPS (VTPS), Ibrahimpatnam 800 MW plant operational within 10 days”, MD GENCO said..
“APGENCO is also establishing 12 Hydro Electric units of 80 MW capacities at Polavaram where in Commissioning and Synchronization of first three (3) Units is to be completed by 30th July’ 2024. Balance 9 units are to be commissioned with an interval of 2 months for each unit from 30th July, 2024. All 12 units will be commissioned by 30th Jan’2026. APGENCO would work keeping in mind the objective of the State government to provide 24X7 quality, reliable and cost effective power supply through optimized power generation.” he said
Special Chief Secretary Energy K Vijayanand told utilities to be ready to meet the rising demand and provide uninterrupted quality power to consumers. As per the directions of Chief Minister Y S Jagan Mohan Reddy and Energy Minister Peddireddi Ramachandra Reddy, the power utilities should strive hard to meet the objective of 24x7 power supply keeping in view the general issues that arises in power supply due to rising temperatures. The utilities should fully prepare to meet the expectations of government to supply uninterrupted power to every home in the State” Special CS said.
The energy minister Peddireddi Ramachandra Reddy has appreciated Special Chief Secretary Energy K Vijayanand and MD APGENCO KVN Chakradhar Babu and entire team of APGENCO and APTRANSCO for the unique achievement of achieving synchronization of VTPS thermal plants in a record period and consistently providing uninterrupted 24x7 quality and reliable power supply to consumers in the State. He asked power utilities to be more cautious in view of increase in temperatures to avoid any inconvenience to the people due to any interruptions in power supply.
Stating that APGENCO has the installed capacity of 7189.026 MW and contributes to 45 percent of grid demand comprising of Thermal - 3410 MW, Hydro – 1773.6 MW, Non Conventional Energy – 405.426 MW and SDSTPS under APPDCL – 1600MW, APGENCO MD further said that the core activity of APGENCO / AP Power Development Corporation Limited (APPDCL) is generation of Power and selling the same to APDISCOMS. APGENCO & APPDCL on an average are selling about 2400 MU per month to AP DISCOMS, he said
