Minister Narayana’s Delegation Visits London
Study of Global Models for Amaravati Tourism and International Sports City Projects
London, February 2, 2026: With the objective of developing Amaravati into one of the world’s top five cities, the Andhra Pradesh government is moving forward by studying global best practices in urban development. As part of this initiative, Municipal Administration and Urban Development Minister Narayana is on an official visit to London along with senior officials.
The delegation includes Municipal Administration Principal Secretary Suresh Kumar and Amaravati Growth and Infrastructure Corporation Managing Director Shonti Srinivas. During the visit, the team is closely studying international models relevant to the proposed International Sports City and major tourism projects planned for Amaravati.
As part of the London tour, the ministerial team met Gwyn Richards, Director of Planning and Development, City of London Corporation. During the meeting, officials explained London’s master plan, development strategies, and transport systems through a detailed PowerPoint presentation. They also showcased a city miniature model, explaining how a city with nearly 2,000 years of history has been continuously modernized in line with changing times.
Later in the day, the delegation visited the Battersea Power Station in London. Once a major power generation facility, the station has been transformed into a globally renowned tourism and commercial destination. The team studied how riverfront development along the Thames, boating facilities, and iconic architectural redesign have turned the area into a major attraction for tourists as well as a commercial hub.
The delegation also visited the London Eye, the world’s tallest cantilevered observation wheel located on the banks of the Thames. In view of the Andhra Pradesh government’s in-principle decision to establish a similar observation wheel along the Krishna riverfront in Amaravati, Minister Narayana interacted with officials to understand the operational and management aspects of the London Eye. The team also examined several other tourism projects developed along the Thames riverfront.
Officials stated that the London visit would help the state adopt global best practices for developing large-scale tourism projects and building an international-standard sports city in Amaravati, thereby accelerating the city’s transformation into a world-class urban center.
