Vijayawada, January 9, : Minister for Handlooms, Textiles, BC, and EWS Welfare, S. Savitha, announced the organization of monthly handloom exhibitions across the state to ensure financial security for weavers. Launching the Niche Handloom Marketing Expo 2024-25 in Vijayawada, she emphasized the government’s commitment to promoting handloom sales and supporting weavers.
The expo, held at a local convention center, features 49 stalls showcasing handloom products from Andhra Pradesh and other states like Telangana, Rajasthan, Tamil Nadu, and West Bengal. Minister Savitha interacted with exhibitors, assessed their sales, and reiterated the state’s efforts to revive handloom traditions.
She encouraged citizens to support weavers by purchasing handloom garments during the upcoming Sankranti festival, underlining that handloom represents Telugu culture.

The minister highlighted key initiatives, including agreements with Tata Group for year-round employment, marketing facilities for 35 varieties of Andhra Pradesh handloom products, and subsidies for yarn purchases. Plans are also underway to establish 10 clusters in collaboration with Aditya Birla Group, expand APCO showrooms, and implement the new textiles policy.
Weavers can also benefit from health insurance, thrift fund schemes, and free electricity for power looms. Minister Savitha reaffirmed the government's commitment to fostering a golden era for handloom under CM Chandrababu Naidu's leadership.
